All-everything safety Derwin James suffered a knee injury yesterday for FSU. No word yet on severity but it would be a huge blow to our defense if he's lost. What's the latest? Has the swelling gone down enough to have an MRI done?

After Georgias narrow victory over Nicholls State, all players reported severe lacerations in the posterior after the ass chewing from HC Kirby Smart in the locker room. Reportedly Coach Smart walked in after the players did, looked around and said, "Pardon me, ladies. I'm looking for the Georgia football team."**apologies to Knute Rockne Lmao. Classic. And appropriate.

Tennessee starting LB Darrin Kirkland, Jr. is out for Ohio and likely out for Florida with an ankle sprain. He had 16 tackles in the first 2 games. It's a tough stretch to miss if it's a dreaded high ankle sprain. After Ohio this week, the vols have a tough stretch starting with Florida on 9/24, at Georgia on 10/1, at Texas A&M on 10/8, and Alabama on 10/15. Middle linebacker Kirkland (week to week) is a big loss ...especially when you factor in that Jumper is the man to replace him (good kid but has pretty much sucked up to this point) UT will also be without defensive end LaTroy Lewis this Saturday...but we are pretty deep at D end so that loss can be overcome without missing a beat (IMO)....According to Jones he may be back in as soon as 2 to 3 weeks. Bg(2 weeks isn't that big of a deal...but in 3 weeks we get into the real tough part of our schedule<g>)VolFan

We'll see about that right after the last tune up games.
More UF updates:
Antonio Callaway has a problem with his quad. He didn't practice yesterday and he won't play this week unless he can practice on Wednesday. With Mac, if you don't practice on Wednesday, you don't play. News Flash To Mac: Let it heal this week and get Callaway ready for next week at UT.
Fred Johnson, starting RT, tweaked his ankle against UK and may miss this week. Tyler Jordan, starting RG, tweaked his ankle too and may miss this week.
Tyree Cleveland would have been the third true freshman WR to contribute, but he pulled his hamstring again. He is out this week. Hopefully, he can make a go next week. Anybody know how long it takes a hamstring to heal?
Everybody else is healthy and ready to go. I'd say it's a good thing UF is playing North Texas this week instead of UT.

Hamstrings are tricky. Dalvin pulled a hammy last season and it hampered him the rest of the season, but he still played, and played well. If it is bad, he can be out a while.

Hamstring injuries are tricky. If it is a slight pull, then 2 weeks rest and it will be fine, but if it is a severe pull then 2-3 weeks and it will feel ok but is highly susceptible to pulls. A severe pull takes 6 weeks or more to heal properly. Been there, done that. Several times.

Thanks for the hamstring info. UF already has two true freshmen WRs playing very well, Josh Hammond and Freddie Swain. I'd let Tyree Cleveland get right before playing him. Tyree is going to be special good. There is no reason to be playing him while injured. He injured the hamstring in preseason practice and we brought him back too soon.

New update on Derwin James...injury worse than feared....out 5-7 weeks. Hope he's back by Clemson. I saw on an ESPN scroll that the surgery was to repair damaged cartilage and James is out indefinitely. If it had been to repair torn ligaments, it would have been season ending.

Another killer injury for FSU. Josh Sweat... starting defensive end didn't make the trip to Louisville and appears to be out with an undisclosed knee injury.
That's two 5 star players out, on the road, playing against the number 10 in the nation, who has a highly mobile quarterback...who has scored more touchdowns by himself than 115 teams in the nation.
Yay.

Yay. It gets worse. ESPN reported today on one of the CFB shows that Derwin James is likely to miss 10 games. If that is right, that's missing the whole season, but could play in the playoff or bowl game. James' injury is looking more and more like a season ending injury to me. If that happens, is he off to the NFL or does he come back for another season?

If that happens, is he off to the NFL or does he come back for another season? I heard about the 10 game thing for James, but I think that's probably overestimating. James made an amazing recovery after having surgery in the fall, being ready for opening day when it was expected he'd miss some time. I wouldn't be shocked to see him back for Miami. I only hope he doesn't rush it and put his career in jeopardy, because that kid is a freaking stud. Good news for us...it appears that the injury to Sweat isn't severe, and it looks like he will travel to Louisville today and is expected to play Saturday. Thank goodness, because I thought we were done for. We really need that kid to play if he can go.
