Good Lord. Pareto Optimality is about market efficiency, it's not about fairness and equality. But, feel free to post your plan for a functional, fair college football sports league. Which, of course, should include all 130 D1 teams. Shouldn't take you long...I mean, it ain't rocket science, right? Pareto Optimality is about optimizing outcomes across a socio-economic spectrum-- without harming other parties, right? Not exactly. Without harming other parties is not the same as fairness and equality, and you're trying to use those terms interchangeably. Pereto Optimality is about the most efficient allocation of resources and it is agnostic when it comes to fairness and equality.
In contrast, look at the damage you sleazy $3 dollar bills in Norman and Austin have done to your Big XII colleagues! Love the irony, and your concern for the Big 12 colleagues Colorado abandoned in 2011 for the Pac 12 is touching. As is the concern CU showed their Pac 12 colleagues by jumping back to the Big 12.
FTR, OU and Texas stuck around for 10+ years after you left, and brought in the lion's share of national TV revenue, which was shared equally with other members. FTR, OU brought in the most $$....meaning we also gave up the most. These new ESPN and Fox monopolies with the SEC and B10 are the opposite of Pareto Optimal. Show your plan. Will it, ultimately, bite you guys in the ass-- if other Power Five college football fans in the U.S. boycott your games? Might happen, guess we'll all find out soon enough. Speaking for myself, I won't be watching any B10 or SEC games in the future. Cool. FWIW, the Nebraska/Colorado game this year should be a good one....too bad you're going to miss it.

B10 and SEC teams and fans won't lose any sleep over your absence. You can watch Colorado in their bowl games. Oh wait! They don't make it to bowl games. Down memory lane with dopey Dung-head Ra mey, the Alabama Welcher... This was a good football game. The Georgia Bulldogs got their future All Pro WR A.J. Green back for their game in Boulder-- but Colorado's future First Round draft pick, CB Jimmy Smith, succeeded in shutting Green down at Folsom Field. PO is interesting. A PO perfect outcome could be if one person had 100% and all others had 0%. No % could be added or subtracted.

Daleko, That's not even close to Pareto Optimality if we use T zero as the 21st century point when ESPN and the corporate media began to bankroll and promote the SEC, while relegating Western football teams to late night television. The only reason some of you guys don't understand what happened is that you have lousy memories.

It's the opposite of marginal Pareto Optimization. See if you can figure that one out.

That you consider it relevant or even important is misguided.

Here's an economics homework assignment for you, Daleko. Go back to the year 2000, and explain what kind of Pareto Improvements you would make to upgrade Power Five college football conferences and corporate media funding and coverage in the U.S. Then tell us how your proposals for Pareto Improvements compare with what has happened to college football in the U.S. since 2000. Do you and Harry know what Pareto Improvements are-- for socio-economic systems?

You have posted in here many time that you did threaten to shoot us. By the way, I never said you would shoot me at Folsom Field. Another lie from you.

Do you and Harry know what Pareto Improvements are-- for socio-economic systems? Very familiar w PO. Unlike you I actually went to the school of Business/Economics and spent a very rewarding 55 yrs honing my craft, as did and does Harry. It appears PO has delivered to you a new shiny object to fawn over. Which is what it'll be until the next one shows up.
That you want to use it as a vehicle to advance your POV is misguided. That's what I think of PO as it pertains to CFB. I don't.
Sports at its core, for me, is about legal survival of the fittest, as is life. Baseball is a sport and to quote Sandlot, baseball is life. Sport is about surviving and advancing, usually at the expense of someone or something else. It's why they keep score. At a player level. At a club level. At a league level. Even at a sport level. Efficient use, the basis of your discussion, doesn't enter into the equation. Though prudent use does. But in the end it's all about winning and advancing. You do it w the end goal of winning. Doing it w prudence. Efficient? It's the lament of those who lost and couldn't compete.
If I can spend $X to advance my asset and it retracts someone in my relative field of play, that's a win, win. It advances my brand. If I create or see an advantage, I exploit it to the maximum. That's what competitive sport is about.

There are ways that a rational, fair administrative college football authority could have improved media coverage and funding for Power Five universities across the U.S. in the 21st century, without damaging any universities-- i.e., Pareto Improvements. Instead, the opposite occurred. Individual conferences set up their own monopolies with corporate media profiteers-- directly damaging and marginalizing other universities, especially in the Western half of the U.S. Duh. What ways? Have any specifics?

Also never mind that The Barn was undefeated and won the BCS title by beating Oregon, a West Coast School, who had no problem finding money. They didn't whine about it. THey found a way to compete. And though they lost a close game to Aubarn, that West Coast School competed and thrived. As did USC before the NCAA a$$raped them. That CU couldn't find a way speaks to CU not the system. Survival of the fittest.
