true. no doubt that coaches get paid very, very well in today's world. they also work 70-80 hour weeks for at least 6 months out of the year, and a huge barometer of their performance, both in perception and reality, is tied to the actions of 18-22 year olds when their not at practice under the eyes of the coaching staff. lots of $$. tough tough job. not making excuses... those are the facts. whatever he did at uf, I hope he learned from that experience and is able to apply those tweaks now. I know that from the day he was hired in late 2011 thru mid-july 2013, there was not one arrest or off-field issue. in a 48 hr time frame this week, osu had 4. if that number turns into 31 over the next 4 years, then you have to think its something meyer is or isn't doing. if it doesn't? then over time the uf issues will have to be seen as an aberration... because he had no such behavior-related issues w/his players at bg or Utah. mark scott tosu 81 Inquiring minds want to know - why did you capitalize "Utah"?? Are you a closet Mormon or something? that would be a shock to dad... the retired united Methodist minister. this program does auto punctuation (re: Methodist) and recognizes formal names I guess. not my choice. I prefer the e.e. cummings style... mark scott tosu 81

Very interesting article/analysis on the differences between Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer as it relates to the total number of recruiting offers made and which states those offers were concentrated in. www.elevenwarriors.com/2013/07/23996/meyer-and-tressel-where-do-the-offers-go#moreAnd another plug for the 11W site... If you aren't already aware of the site and like to follow all things Buckeyes, do yourself a favor and check it out. I used to go to the O-Zone for my fix but haven't bothered with that site since I found 11W a couple of years ago. Good, good stuff.

BTW, I saw a couple of Buckeye writers comment yesterday on how relaxed and composed Braxton Miller was in Chicago. It is no secret that the success of our offense depends heavily on his talent and ability but if the media is picking up on a different vibe from him this year, that could mean we are in for a treat if he finally puts it all together. Both physically and mentally.
Can. Not. Wait.

I actually hope he runs less this year... as a byproduct of an improved receiving corps. that group needs to step up in order for us to have the kind of season we're all hoping for. mark scott tosu 81

Both teams need the QB and WRs to step up together to have a stellar season.

With our weak schedule again this year, we could probably skate by again without much of a passing game but where we need someone (or someones, plural) to step up is in our front 7. We are awfully young up front and while more seasoned at the LB position, we don't have a lot of depth there so for us to have the kind of season we think we are capable of, the defensive side of the ball has to be good. Or even great. Scoring points won't be a problem, I am pretty confident of that.

I liked not only what he said, but how he said it. he didn't try to sidestep all the off-field arrows, he talked about an overall strategy but admitted he was human, that criticism does affect him when he hears it, that he and is staff are constantly trying to tweak what works and what doesn't in terms of '2nd chances'. he talked openly about how the players become like your kids, and you have to balance the honey and the vinegar (my paraphrase there). I thought he came across understated but under control and genuine. like an accomplished coach who is still willing to learn. a presser is just a snapshot to be sure, but I came away very encouraged about his approach. I might have liked it even more if I had remembered where I left my scarlet glasses last night. mark scott tosu 81

One week from today, players will begin checking into their hotel signaling the start of camp. Getting closer...

It seems the Cleveland area has cornered the market on them. " Rudy's on a train to nowhere..........halfway down the line"

The suspension of the FAMU's famed Marching 100 was lifted last month yet the school has confirmed that they will not be traveling with the team to Columbus when the Rattlers play the Buckeyes. That is a shame because it would have been amazing to see both bands on the same field. Wasn't meant to be, I guess.

I agree, not much more than a little bitch slap but he made contact and that is a no-no for Meyer. He has been suspended for "at least" three games oending whether he meets some undisclosed obligations. I suspect he will and will run all over FAMU once he is back in the lineup. Now, the bigger question... what happens to Roby? Still waiting to hear in that one.
