#6 UF went into Austin and beat #3 UTex 3-2. The game was on the Longhorn Network. I split my time switching between the match and the UF at FSU football game. It was a great match. It avenges a 3-1 loss to UTex in Gainesville back in September.
UF has hopes of receiving a 1 seed in the NCAA tourney. The Gators are the SEC Champion going 18-0 in SEC play.

Given that 6th ranked UF went undefeated in SEC play and beat 3rd ranked UTex in Austin to close the season, I think the Gators should have been higher than the overall 8 seed. However, the important thing is UF is hosting as they should be:

Florida, the SEC regular-season champion, earned the No. 8 overall seed in the NCAA women's volleyball championship.
UF (25-3, 18-0 SEC) will host Alabama State, Miami and Central Florida for the first and second rounds. The Gators will take on the Hornets of Alabama State (20-18, 8-0 SWAC) in the first round at the O'Connell Center on Friday at 7 p.m. The winner of that match will face the winner of the Miami-UCF first-round match Saturday at 7 p.m.
The third-round matches will take place Dec. 12, and the quarterfinals are slated for Dec. 13. The semifinals and championship game will be played Dec. 18 and 20 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Four other teams from the SEC also were invited: Kentucky, LSU, Texas A&M and Alabama. FSU is also hosting an opening weekend.

UF is the lone SEC team left in the volleyball tourney. As the 8 seed, the Gators will face 1 seed Stanford in the Elite Eight on Saturday if both win in the Sweet 16 on Friday.
UF plays Illinois for a chance to take down the #1 ranked and #1 seeded team in the nation. One would have thought the win in Austin over UTex would have put the Gators in a better position than the 8 seed given the task of beating Stanford.
The good thing is the games in this part of the bracket are being played in Ames, Iowa instead of at Stanford. As shown at UTex and in UF's non-conference schedule, the Gators are capable of beating anyone in the nation.

8 seed UF beat 9 seed Illinois to advance to the Elite Eight to play 1 seed Stanford on Saturday night. The match will be televised by ESPN, ESPNU I think. The Gators won set 1, lost sets 2 and 3, and won sets 4 and 5 to win what has been reported to be a "thriller" by ESPN. Too bad it wasn't on television.

Saw a little of the Stanford match last night (my youngest is a volleyball player) and Stanford is good. Real good but Florida hung with them. Just too much power on the outside for the Cardinal. Wish I could have seen more because it sounds like each game was pretty tight.

I've seen all of the Final Four teams. If Stanford doesn't win it all, I'll be surprised. Stanford has no weaknesses. UF gave it their best shot, but it wasn't near enough against a superior Stanford team.
BYU is the oddball of the Final Four. They've got a 6'8" woman, looks older and was drafted to play in the WNBA before deciding to play another year of volleyball, but they don't have the speed or talent to play with Stanford, Texas, or Penn State. If UF had gotten a higher seed which they deserved to avoid Stanford in the Elite Eight, the Gators would likely have been a Final Four team, a better fit than BYU by far.
I'm going to root for BYU to pull it off, but it looks like Stanford's championship to me.
The Gators had a great year finishing 28-4, won the SEC going 18-0, successfully played an outstanding ooc schedule, and advanced to the Elite Eight before running into the Stanford buzz saw. To top it off, the Gators best two players are a freshman and a sophomore. Volleyball at UF is going to remain highly competitive. HC Mary Wise is doing a great job for UF.

#4 UF at #3 UTex today at 3 PM EST. Wowzer, it looks like an Elite 8 or Final Four matchup. The match will be televised on the Longhorn Network. I'm going to record it for playback after the football games:
Friday September 4, 2015 No. 4 Gators Sweep No. 11 Oregon to Open VERT Challenge in Austin
AUSTIN, Texas. -- Senior middle Simone Antwi hit .867 with a team-best 13 kills and sophomore Alex Holston turned in her third career double-double with 10 kills and a career-tying 11 digs as the No. 4 Florida volleyball squad swept No. 11 Oregon (25-18, 25-19, 25-20) at Gregory Gym Friday for its first top-25 victory this season.
While the Gators’ offense was hitting on all cylinders, senior libero Nikki O’Rourke led Florida’s back-row efforts with a career-tying 19 digs as the Gators improved to 3-0 with their VERT Challenge opener. It won’t get easier for the Orange and Blue this weekend as UF squares off with host team No. 3 Texas in a 3 p.m. (ET) clash Saturday afternoon.
Florida hit a season-best .440 against Oregon, including a staggering .607 in the third and final set, to serve the Ducks (5-1) their first loss this season. Senior setter Mackenzie Dagostino (46 assists) quarterbacked a UF offense that had four players with double-digit kills, including sophomore middle Rhamat Alhassan (11) and senior outside hitter Živa Recek (11) in addition to Antwi and Holston.
Alhassan had a team-best 13.5 points, chipping in a service ace and three blocks to complement her 11 kills and .500 hitting efficiency.
Paul Sunderland and Nell Fortner will have the Gators-Longhorns call on Longhorn Network Saturday, while Tom Collett will have all the action on ESPN Gainesville (FM 95.3, AM 850).
The weekend set in Austin counts as the Gators’ second road trip of the season and is the middle stretch of a seven-match road strand to open the 2015 campaign before the Gators debut in the O’Dome Sept. 17. Florida and Oregon met Friday for the first time since 1996, while the Gators and Longhorns have a rich rivalry. Last season UF and UT went 1-1, as Texas took the match in Gainesville in September (3-0), while Florida claimed a thrilling five-setter in Austin in November (3-2). While the focus is on Austin this weekend, a dazzling trip to Honolulu, Hawaii, awaits the Orange and Blue next week.
MARY’S MINUTE
“It was a match where our offense was right on track from the first contact. It was as well a setting performance for Mackenzie Dagostino as we’ve seen in her and our hitters made some great choices. Defensively it’s such a challenge to play that elite of an offense. Today our offense really did its job.”

#4 UF wins 3-1 at #3 UTex:
Saturday September 5, 2015 No. 4 Florida Downs No. 3 Texas 3-1, Wins Second Top-25 Match of Weekend
AUSTIN, Texas. -- No. 4 Gator volleyball made it 2-for-2 against top-11 opponents this weekend to improve to 4-0 with a 3-1 win at No. 3 Texas in front of a packed Gregory Gym Saturday afternoon at the VERT Challenge in Austin.
The Gators won the physical war at the net with 16.5 blocks, compared to just six for the Longhorns (4-1), while contributions from all over the court propelled the Gators to their second consecutive upset over Texas in Austin -- and second straight victory over a ranked opponent in as many matches.
Senior setter Mackenzie Dagostino turned in her second double-double this season with 45 assists, 11 digs, while freshman Rhamat Alhassan racked up a match-high 21 points with 13 kills, two service aces and nine blocks towards UF’s efforts.
Senior outside hitter Živa Recek hit a team-high .562 with nine kills on 16 errorless swings and led all Gators on the court with 12 digs. Senior libero Nikki O’Rourke chipped in nine scoops as a total of five Gators had five or more digs on the defensive end.
To cap off a stellar first set for the Orange and Blue, redshirt freshman defensive specialist Lindsey Rogers served out the last two points with a senior Simone Antwi and Carli Snyder roof to seal the deal for the 25-20 Florida win. Trailing 21-18 to Texas in the second, sophomore Sam Dubiel served up three straight points to tie the set at 21-all, but the Longhorns scored the next four to take set two 25-21 and even the match at 1-1 heading to the break.
A .517 combined hitting efficiency enabled the Gators to cruise to a 25-18 set-three victory and the fourth, while it took a 26-24 final, was all Florida for the 3-1 finale as junior right side Alex Holston and Antwi broke a 24-24 tie with back-to-back slams for the W.
Next up, the Orange and Blue will trek to Hawaii for a long-awaited trip to Honolulu for the Outrigger Resorts Volleyball Challenge. The Gators will play Eastern Washington, Hawaii and San Diego State during their stay on Oahu.
MARY’S MINUTE
“Rhamat’s numbers are going to garner a lot of attention, as they should, but this is a team win because so many people contributed. Winning in Austin is not easy, whether it’s late in the season or early in the season, but today we got such great contributions by so many people it enabled us to be successful.”
