... for a thursday, yesterday. opening round of the web.com golf tour's stop at osu scarlet for the nationwide children's hospital championship. only 13 players broke par on the alister mackenzie track (mackenzie, fyi, designed augusta national, cypress point in monterrey, um's main course in ann arbor too amongst many others around the world back in the 20s/30s) that nicklaus touched up a few years ago. you had the blue jackets at home last night hosting an exhibition game w/the minnesota wild. and up in delaware, at the county fairgrounds, nearly 47,000 people circled the race track for the 70th running of the little brown jug, the final leg of harness racing's triple crown for 3 year old pacers. in a day when any kind of race is more of a corporate event, the charm and simplicity of the jug still being held in the shadow of the livestock barns, ffa and 4h exhibits, and the rides on the midway, is a beautiful throwback to another era. sitting in the grandstand is great, but it's just as fun to be amongst those who back their rv's and trailers and makeshift bleachers and set up their tents on the fence line circling the track (the party i was with yesterday is always on the first turn), partying for 30-45 minutes then squeezing up outside the track to see each race. a pacer named wiggle it jiggleit, who's been the best horse on the circuit this year, won by a nose in the 3rd/final heat. if you ever want to take in a great sporting event outside the norm, i'd highly recommend the jug.

Jugs (plural) are better.
