board of trustees of universities are made up of corporate wimps who don't want to deal with this type of scandal but the university of louisville really likes winning.  they like winning so much that they made pitino the third highest paid coach in college bball, built a brand new fancy arena recently and rehired a football coach who once left them hanging high and dry only to subsequently get caught having an extra marital affair with an ex student athlete after crashing his motorycle.  i bet pitino survives.

What I meant ma'am was that the duke lacrosse story turned out to be much different that originally reported.

Not sure what you are driving at though. At duke, the real story turned out to be much different than what was originally reported.

i like how we should be pragmatic and give the benefit of the doubt in this situation until more facts are known, but for penn state, it was perfectly justifiable to hammer the program to near death based on unverified allegations.

i've copied your first reply on this. substitute 'university of louisville' w/'penn state'. substitute 'bball' w/'cfb'. substitute 'fancy new arena' w/'extensive expansions of beaver stadium', substitute the rehiring of petino w/the allowance of reknowned ass't coach being allowed to have an office on campus working w/a kids organization even after psu execs knew about his prior investigations, shower incident, etc.

i think your first thought was right. some universities will go to incredible extremes to protect what they see as the most visible marketing entity they have.

the parallel between louisville and psu may be similiar  but the reactions given to each are not.  jay bilas, one of the most respected analysts in all of college sports immediately defended pitino yesterday.  but in 2011, was one of the harshest critics of paterno when none of the facts were known.  if it turns out that this louisville assistant went rogue and had this secret recruiting tactic that no one else knew about, should pitino still be held responsible for not knowing what was happening?
