GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Gators and Huskies have set up for a fun Senior Day in Gainesville. Both No. 2 Florida and UConn are an undefeated 6-0 in conference play heading into the BIG EAST finale for both teams at noon Sunday at Donald R. Dizney Lacrosse Stadium. Not only will the conference regular-season title be up for grabs, but a No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament is at stake. Florida has won six straight games entering Sunday's clash, having won three straight at home after its lone 14-4 hiccup this season to No. 1 Maryland in Gainesville on March 19. UConn embarks on Gainesville with a 12-2 overall record, with slip ups to Syracuse (17-7) and UMass (15-6), but otherwise unscathed on the season. GAINESVILLE, Fla. – For a sixth consecutive season, the University of Florida women's lacrosse program captured a regular season conference championship, securing its second straight BIG EAST Conference crown with Sunday's (April 24) 13-8 victory over UConn at Donald R. Dizney Lacrosse Stadium. By winning the league's regular season title, Florida wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament, and will open postseason play in Thursday's (May 5) first semifinal in Washington, D.C. The win also capped a perfect 7-0 season for the Gators in BIG EAST play, marking the fourth time in program history they've finished a conference slate undefeated. Florida finishes the regular season 16-1 overall, including a 10-1 mark at home. A win in the club's first BIG EAST Tournament match would tie the 2013 team for the best 18-game start in program history. As far as the game itself, a close 6-4 affair at halftime turned into a UF rout in the closing 30 minutes. The Gators scored seven consecutive goals in the second frame, with the final tally coming from Devon SchnWunderlich at the 2:14 mark. UConn's other four goals all came in the final 1:51 of regulation. Junior Sammi Burgess, redshirt senior Nicole Graziano, and freshman Lindsey Rondbeck led the Gators with three goals apiece. Burgess added two assists and posted a game-high five points. Graziano's third goal, which came at the 5:12 mark of the second half, marked the 100th of her career and made her the sixth Gator in school history to hit that mark. Prior to the game, Florida honored its senior class, which boasts a 67-13 record (.838), and have won a conference title and competed in the NCAA Tournament every year of their careers. WASHINGTON -- Freshman middie Sydney Pirreca and junior attacker Sammi Burgess each had a hat trick Thursday in an 11-8 Gators win over Georgetown in semifinals of the BIG EAST Tournament at Cooper Field in DC. With its second victory against Georgetown this season, No. 2 Florida (17-1) advances to the conference tournament championship game for a second time in as many seasons in the league. Florida, the top seed in the tourney, will square off Saturday at 2:30 p.m. with the winner of Temple, UConn currently being played. The youngest Pirreca put together a hat trick in the first half alone, helping the Gators to a 4-0 start out of the gate, thanks to a pair from the freshman speedster, and scores from Co-Attacker of the Year Sammi Burgess and junior Mollie Stevens, playing in her first game since March 19. Pirreca's three scores were her second-most on the season since five against UNC Feb. 20 and helped guide the Orange and Blue to their best 18-game start in program history at 17-1. Florida's keepers helped the cause with a combined 12 saves -- the most this season -- from senior Mary-Sean Wilcox (7) and freshman Haley Hicklen (5). After grabbing a 5-1 lead, the Orange and Blue succumbed to a 4-0 Georgetown run in the final three minutes of the half for a 5-5 tie at the break. The Hoyas added two straight out of the locker room for a 6-0 run and a 7-5 advantage before Florida countered at the 26:18 mark. Stevens connected with Burgess for Florida's sixth goal, and sophomore All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree Shayna Pirreca knotted the game at 7-7 with 22:42 on the clock in the second. In a span of 11 seconds, both Florida and Georgetown made it 8-8, the Hoyas with a goal at 15:13, and Florida at 15:03 on a Lindsey Ronbeck fast break from Taylor Bresnahan. Redshirt senior Middie of the Year Nicole Graziano made it career goal No. 101 with a free-position success for the 9-8 lead the Orange and Blue wouldn't relinquish. After the Gators stalled some time off the clock, senior All-BIG EAST Second Teamer Lauren Lea drew a foul and capitalized on another free-position score for a two-goal cushion at 10-8. Burgess added her 99th career goal with 1:18 to seal the deal for the Gators with a hat trick and a team-high four points. THE RECORDS No. 2 Florida: 17-1, 7-0 BIG EAST Georgetown: 6-11, 4-3 BIG EAST

NCAA tourney #2 seed:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- A day after winning the 2016 BIG EAST Tournament, the Gator lacrosse program picked up the No. 2 overall seed in the 26-team NCAA Tournament to earn a first-round bye and the right to host NCAA First & Second Rounds in Gainesville May 13 & 15. Florida will play host to the Penn State Nittany Lions and Winthrop Eagles this weekend in Gainesville. Penn State (11-6) and Winthrop (20-2), Big South Conference Champions, will play at 4 p.m. Friday at Donald R. Dizney Stadium, and the winner will earn a date with the BIG EAST Champion Gators Sunday at 1 p.m. at The Diz.
The Orange and Blue, out to the best start in program history at 18-1, are going dancing for a sixth straight season and picked up their second-highest seed in program history after being the top seed in 2012. Florida, the lone BIG EAST squad in the tournament, has advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals three seasons (2011, 2013, 2014) and played in the NCAA Semifinals in 2012. Florida is 5-1 all-time against Penn State, including a perfect 4-0 record at home. The Gators have faced Winthrop just once, a 2014 tilt in Gainesville that went in favor of the home team. The Orange and Blue enter the 2016 NCAA Tournament with a 6-5 record all-time in NCAA Tourney play.

Penn State upset UF 14-13 in the second round. Given the expectations for this team, I'd say it is a disappointing result and finish to the season.

We had some great individual efforts, but this was a total Gator team win."
Senior Mollie Stevens: "We had a long time to practice and prepare for this game. It was a total team effort tonight. Our defense would try to mimic their zone every day in practice and that gave us the ability to take opportunities when we saw them. It really paid off for us in the game."
