the good news? cleveland enters the 4-day mid season vacation at 52-36, with a 6.5 game lead in the al central. the starting pitching has been outstanding, the hitting, both for power and in crucial spots, has improved over the course of the summer to date.
the bad news? the pitching and defense took some definite steps backward this week, after the 14 game win streak got snapped. indians have allowed 67 runs in the last 9 games, going 3-6, allowing 7+ runs in 5 of those 6 losses. 3 errors today allowed 7 unearned yankee runs to cross the plate in an 11-7 loss. tribe has played 17 games in 17 days, 23 in the last 24. and this is the first series since mid-june that cleveland has dropped. this team really really has looked a little drained. hoping they can recharge the batteries.
120k fans in the stands for the 4 game series... that's good to see. this team deserves to have more home field support, and i think they'll see it the rest of the season.
naquin has looked great (another hr today), chisenhall has his average over .300, santana and napoli have found their power strokes the last 4-6 weeks, davis has been a spark, kipnis has been solid, lindor (despite a bad error today) has been fantastic. all of that is promising. on the mound, carrasco gave up 5 runs, only 1 earned, in 3 2/3 innings today. he had 81 pitches, and the bullpen allowed another 6 runs (3 earned). bridging between the starters and shaw/allen will be something to watch down the stretch.

Man, they have played in many consecutive games where they are grinding it out some. The last few summers i'm tuning them in and out because they were always 7-9 games under .500 until late Aug. when they catch fire and go on a run___the errors bother me but the bone head plays bother me more (Almonte not taking off fast to first on a passed ball)__The Yankees have a great bullpen and wouldnt mind if the Tribe goes after one before the deadline if the Yankees are selling and the Tribe did no favors in losing 3 of 4

I've been a bit disappointed in the lack of fundamentals, especially Lindor...He is young, and probably won't make the same mistakes again, but MAN...Last week, it was the hesitation with a runner going to third, and he missed getting the guy at first; then the base running error; then the fielding lapse. You know they're a little tired, but fundamentals (training) should get you by being a little tired. I'm sure Francona will bring it to their attention...

You know they're a little tired, but fundamentals (training) should get you by being a little tired. I'm sure Francona will bring it to their attention... at first i was surprised francona put almonte in the lineup but quickly realized that w/so few position players on the bench he needed to give some starters a day off. not only does he goof on the passed ball that would have extended an inning, but he also misplayed a flyball this weekend that turned into ny runs. tough re-entry aafter being off a couple months. lindor has 6 or 7 errors so far this year... earlier this week he made a great play going to 3rd on a grounder to force a runner, and had that same thought yesterday but couldn't make the throw (uribe wasn't near the bag) so then wheeled and rushed his throw to 2nd. as a young player, i think decision-making in the field gets tougher in the bigs, knowing when you can take your time and when you can't. his pluses have exponentially outweighed his minuses, but as you mentioned i'm sure terry and his coaches will make it a priority.
