... The cbj is looking like a playoff team. Out of the gate it looked like they might go 0-8 to start the season so an imposing early schedule, but the jackets are now 6-3-2. A great start for the first time in what seems like decades. Lol. You know what I mean...

A great start for the first time in what seems like decades. Lol. You know what I mean... They took 5 of a possible 8 points on the West Coast which was huge but the turning point may have been the come-from-behind win against Dallas where they scored with :16 to go in regulation. I have always been a believer in Torts but as I said a couple of weeks ago, that defense is going to be an issue and without much depth in the organization, an injury or two could derail things quickly. They have tough stretch starting tonight with the Bruins and two against a really good Washington team so we'll see but they are certainly playing well right now, no doubt.

I didn't see the game last night but based on the highlights on NHL.com, the defense hung Bob out to dry. Holy tunrovers in your own end, Batman!

Sam Gagner is the early leader in the clubhouse for surprise starts. 6 goals now, which is beyond crazy. Much like former Jacket and Bolt Jonathan Marchessault in Florida, sometimes a change of scenery and linemates does a world of good. If Torts can somehow get that defense to improve, the playoffs are certainly in reach.

I didn't, unfortunately. My wife's high school was in town last night for a regional final so I had to follow the hockey game online. Looks like the Jackets offense carved our D up pretty good. We erased two, two-goal deficits but it wasn't enough. Torts has those guys playing really well right now so I gladly admit I was wrong. My boys will be up your way on Tuesday to try and get some revenge.

By all means, rub it in because the Jackets are playing well. I had a dinner event last night so I only saw the 3rd period and by then both teams were going through the motions but by all accounts, we were never in the game. We have some injuries to key players (Stamkos, Stralman) but the fact remains, the Jackets are playing better than we are right now and the results of the last two matchups shows that. I still question their defense but if they can keep scoring goals like they are, it will keep some of the pressure off that defense while they continue to grow. BTW, seeing Sam Gagner score again last night is a microcosm of the Jackets season. A guy pulled off the scrap heap stepping up in a big way. You have to believe this won't last but until they prove otherwise, enjoy the ride... and Go Torts!

I saw what Gagner did last night and decided this isn't a fluke so I grabbed him in my fantasy league this morning. By the way, did you know Gagner was once a Bolt? Well, for an hour or so before we traded him again but still... I must say, I am shocked at how quickly the Jackets have turned this around. And it isn't in spite of the poor defense... that has improved as much as the offense has. It truly is the feel good story of the season so far. Amazing.

Amazing. i couldn't skate well enough to be a goalie, so it's not like i'm any kind of expert, but they seem to be much faster, in all aspects, this year. the attack mode they've had on offense, which we've never had here with any kind of consistency, is really fun to watch. i still think the defensive numbers are skewed a little because of that, but you're right, the backliners are playing better too.

I don't know if he still uses this approach but Torts put a sign up in the locker room when he was here that said, "Dafe is Death". Now, you have to have the personnel to implement that approach but I always loved that line and I couldn't be happier that Torts is having success again.
