...won't have the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff or the Director of National Intelligence on it, but instead, will have the former editor of an alt-right internet rag with exactly zero experience in national security issues advising the POTUS. What could possibly go wrong with that? Holy Crap... This is getting crazy-scary. Yeah this could get real scary........imagine if something like one of our embassy's were under attack for 8 hours.....who indeed would advise the president? who advised the last time? Where the f-word was he to get advice for those 8 hours? depends they'll help soak up all the wetting you're doing.

Walt, you don't think a variety of opinions and backgrounds is essential to a balanced advisory board to the POTUS?

Walt, you don't think a variety of opinions and backgrounds is essential to a balanced advisory board to the POTUS? You mean, like maybe the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Director of National Intelligence? Most certainly I do. Why doesn't Trump?

What is it? His team? Who is on it? Do you have an issue w Flynn as a NSA? The National Security Council. From Wiki.... "The National Security Council was created in 1947 by the National Security Act. It was created because policymakers felt that the diplomacy of the State Department was no longer adequate to contain the USSR in light of the tension between the Soviet Union and the United States.[1] The intent was to ensure coordination and concurrence among the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and other instruments of national security policy such as the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), also created in the National Security Act."So....in light of that description, (highlight mine) The POTUS decides he doesn't need the CJCS at the meetings? Say what? Read what you put here. Basically, the NSC was created so that the diplomats actually had a big stick behind their backs while talking to the Russians. In 1947 the internet and other modern instant communication capabilities did not exist. Information exchange is much easier now, as long as you avoid internet servers set up in somebody's bathroom. Do you really think the heads of all these agencies will NOT be in constant contact with each other?

Doesn't mean they won't be attending when their input is required. Not having them on a regular basis is unprecedented but if needed they would be available and co-ordination would happen. The secretary of energy and director of the Office of Management and Budget were also removed from the committee's list of "regular members," and the deputy secretary of state will no longer be invited to every committee meeting. The chair of the Council of Economic Advisers will not be invited even "when issues to be discussed pertain to their responsibilities and expertise." The NSC Committee will be chaired by former Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, Trump's national security adviser, and Tom Bossert, Trump's homeland security adviser. Defense Secretary James Mattis and Trump's secretary of state nominee, Rex Tillerson, have seats on the committee. Seems like the bases are covered, know attendence by others are but a beeper away.
Still trying to figure out the necessity for the X order in the first place. Any ideas?

This administration is looking like a football team with 20 starting freshmen playing in the first game of the season...Lot's of unforced errors and false starts.

Still trying to figure out the necessity for the X order in the first place. Any ideas? I'll not begin to be a Trump apologist. He wasn't my "A" choice. But he is our POTUS, so move forward we will. I'll also not play Walt's chicken little game, who is just taking on the role of the far R of the past few yrs, here. I don't see the end of our country or the world because of this decision. But to your Q of why, I don't know. Change-up? Different focus? I think all the bases are still covered, at a moments notice, Chairman of the JC isn't a big deal. He'll still have a voice. DNI is a coordinator. And a funnel. Maybe this makes the funnel larger. If Trump was fighting WW II/Korea the ChoJC would hold more value but the battles we are fighting today are different. If this happened 4 yrs ago w Obama he might be cheering the move.
