In an interview today, Chris Wallace asserted to Kellyanne Conway that Christian asylum seekers were admitted in roughly equal numbers as Muslims. Wallace asserted this in complaining about President Trump's administration giving preference for Christians.
His assertion seemed quite slanted to me. According to the Pew Research Center, in 2016, the Obama "administration set the goal of resettling 10,000 Syrian refugees in the U.S. in the fiscal year. This goal was exceeded, and refugee status was given to 12,587 Syrians. Nearly all of them (99%) were Muslim and less than 1% were Christian." LINK
Trump was talking about how Christians in the worn torn areas made part of enhanced vetting and a temporary immigration pause were not being protected through our asylum process. Being slaughtered for their faith in those areas is truly a religious purge and those people need to be protected.
It is not that the United States does not admit Christians. It is that the Obama administration turned a cold shoulder to Christians in allowing asylum here.
Wallace skewed the facts to say that it is a lie that Christians are not in need of special protection and treatment now because they were being admitted in the same number as Muslims. Wallace is wrong. 1% is not a fair treatment of Christians who are being beheaded, raped, enslaved and subject to persecution for nothing other than their faith in ISIS areas.
Wallace seems to me to be on a misinformation campaign all his own. He showed a picture last week that falsely asserted that the crowd size he showed was accurate. Other pictures showed a packed crowd but he chose to use an earlier picture taken before the crowd was fully formed during President Trump's speech to assert the crowd size. (I am merely referring to something already covered to show Wallace's ongoing bias.)
Two weeks in a row, Wallace called President Trump a liar and falsely reported to do it - or so the facts seem to me.
