The takedown pins are captured dummy, and the trigger group pins don't walk out - they're captured by the hammer spring vis grooves in the pins.
Get an M&P sporter then for less than $500 if you want interchangeability. Hell, Colt LE6920's are going for a little over $700 right now.

I don't believe M&P and Colt mags are interchangeable with Ruger mags. AR mags don't fit Rugers. I'll stick with the Mini-14 and more magazines for IT. Like I said, I don't NEED another 5.56, unless I buy another Mini. Two Cadillacs are always better than one Caddy and a VW.

Do you think the term "takedown pin" might give a clue as to its function? There's one at the front and one at the rear of the receiver that keeps the upper and lower halves of the receiver from falling apart like the other cartoon guns do. Kinda like the wood screws in those cheap built Fender guitars. Unnecessary if they were built right to begin with.
A REAL rifle is made with a one-piece SOLID STEEL receiver, like the one used on the Mini-14, and just about every other modern rifle known to man. The other exception is the sheet metal AK design. The AK action is superior, too. You just CAN'T clog it up.
Let me explain to you how this gun mania works:
In the old days, cops carried revolvers and soldiers carried M-1's and M-14's.
After the Illinois State Police did it, all the police agencies went to 9MM pistols. The gun "experts" in all the gun magazines declared this the perfect solution. And the lemming public devoured 9MM's.
Then the cops switched to .40 cals. The gun "experts" in all the gun magazines declared this the perfect solution. And the lemming public devoured .40's.
Glock developed the first practical plastic handgun. The gun "experts" in all the gun magazines either loved or hated them, but the cops were using them. So the lemming public devoured Glocks. And every other manufacturer began copying them, trying to clone or outdo the original, which can't be done. I am not a fan of striker-fired pistols, but the best one out there is the Glock. You gotta face reality.
In the Vietnam War, the US Army introduced the M-16, which got a lot of soldiers killed, until they figured out that the SOB won't operate unless it is kept CLEAN. The Marines did their best to keep the superior M-14, but eventually the entire U.S. military was using M-16's as general issue weapons. The gun "experts" in all the gun magazines declared this the perfect solution. And the lemming public devoured AR-15's.
Do you see the pattern here? Gun magazine writers and other "experts" tell you the M-16 is superior and you buy right into it like the other lemmings. You eat up the propaganda without acknowledging the fact that the Mini-14 action is much better. Both have acceptable combat accuracy. If I want a sniper rifle, I'll pick a bolt action.

If Bill Ruger had worked a little bit quicker, the odds are very good that the U.S. military would be issuing Mini-14's to this day, and it would be THAT gun that you get a hard-on about. You are happy to be like all the rest of the lemmings. Learn to think for yourself.
Don't think the Army knows it all. They fukked up when they picked the Beretta 92 to replace the 1911-A1. They found out the hard way when the sands of the Middle East ate up those inferior guns. They also bowed to NATO pressure and gave up the .45ACP for the 9MM. But elite units and other experts still choose the 1911 when they can. 107 years of the 1911 (it passed field trials in 1910) have proven it beyond any doubt. |
