I am NOT a big shotgun aficionado, so here goes.......
I own one shotgun. Winchester Model 1300 Defender, 3" 12 gauge chambering. It looks exactly like this one ......... even the same aftermarket stock. Mine does have a British military web sling on it. www.gunbroker.com/item/691872567 It's stoked with Remington Home Defense 2.75" high brass BB loads. Kept with 7 in the mag ---- chamber empty. I admit I have neglected to pattern it, but at less than 30 ft., it should be OK, if I need it after one of my handguns or the Mini-14. It's my 3rd choice for in the house use. At outdoor ranges I would need larger shot.
My reason for owning it is obvious. The farthest I can shoot in my house without going through a wall is probably 30 feet.
I'm sure there are folks here who like shotguns more than I do.

I really like the Ithaca Model 37 best, and I'd like to have the Deerslayer Police Special version, but I'm OK with the Winchester.

Have an older Mossberg with an 181/2 barrel and a Remington 870 pump with a 25 inch barrel that came with 4 chokes. Both shoot smooth as silk, although I wouldn't use Winchester ammo in either. They neither one seem to like them. Would use either one for home defense and would not feel cheated at all. Chambers empty but three in the mag. 7 shot followed by 2 no. 4 bucks. both have a loaded 5 shot ammo sleeve on the stock. no. 4 bucks. Thinking Fred has the advantage with those eight shots.

Why doesn't yours like Winchester?? I've never had a problem with it.

A cpl of older field A5 Belgium Brownings, along w an older A5 Deerslayer, a cpl of Franchis in 20 & 12, Win SX3, Rem 870 20 w a smooth bore slug barrel, that hangs around my BR, Rem 1100 Lt 20 and my latest a SKB Sporting O/U in 12 that I'll take w me to GA this weekend along w my Franchi sporting in 20. The 20s are great for my wife and one of my boys girlfriends at a time to shoot clays with. Very light shooting. Also have a .410 pump for rodent work and an old single shot break action in 20ga my boys started on, that also has a 28ga & .410 insert. The boys will thin the herd when they land somewhere permanent.

I'm not really sure but I did have to actually take the Mossberg in a few years ago to get it 'ungunked' and the gunsmith said it was from using Winchester shells. The Remington has jammed a few times too on them.. so I stick with Remington ammo exclusively mow. Nary a problem.

Both nice guns. The first police shotgun I had was a Remington 870 that someone had shortened the barrel on. Every police car had a different shotgun in it when I first signed on. I liked that old Remmy.
If I do a tactical reload when I first charge the chamber of mine, I've got 7+1, too. But realistically I can't, since I don't keep spare ammo on the gun.

After 10 years, I really don't remember the shot size, but I know I've got some #4's that retired with me. I DO remember those slugs being quite accurate at 25 yards.

I've always wondered if a 20 gauge would be enough shotgun for MY inside-the-house distances. It probably would but what the heck, I've already got the 12, so no need to switch until I'm 80, I guess.

Not thinking morbid thoughts, but I guess it WOULD be neat to be able see your children enjoying their inheritances, especially when it is something they can actually use.

As soon as they lay down somewhere perm, time to clear the herd. We have always shot birds together and clays. Pistols also. My oldest is tight w a Chem E educated in Fl at FSU. Funny how people hook up. She doesn't enjoy shooting any of my pistols but loves shooting a S&W 686 revolver, which she grew up shooting in Fl. And she's pretty good for a Chem E.
