Interesting video. I own 4 of the 10 TYPES, although my SAA and my 1911A-1 are repros. My P-38 is not wartime collector grade, and my Colt Agent is a lower budget version of the Detective Special with aluminum frame and parkerized finish. A true working gun.
The first photo he showed of a "Detective Special" is NOT. It is a S&W Chief's Special. Colts have 6 shot cylinders that rotate clockwise, a "pull" cylinder latch, and no locking lug for the front of the ejector rod. The 2nd revolver shown IS the Detective Special/Agent.
The M1, P-35, and Dragunov are cool. The SKS is butt ugly, and I'll take an AK over it any day. The Model 29 and the SIG P-210 (another ugly gun) don't really interest me, either. I own one 9MM (that's enough), and I don't need the power of a .44 Magnum either. I can also outdo the .44 Special with .45 Colt.
Just my opinion. There is no right or wrong.(Oh hell yeah I'd love to own an original 1873 Model P, or a 1942-43 P-38, but they are way out of my price range! )

If you're comfortable (& accurate) with it, it's the right gun for YOU...My preference for a Beretta for some technical function that I like has no bearing or impact on your preference for the Colt. Similar to my liking Jimi's slide over Duane's twang.

Anyway, yes ..... guns are subjective. If you like the Beretta M-92, you should love the P-38. Beretta copied the P-38 mechanism, with the biggest change being a single recoil spring under the barrel instead of one on each side of the slide/frame. The only downside to the P-38 is that it is an 8+1 gun. The P-38 was the very first successful centerfire DA pistol ever, which makes it unique. The Germans led in all kinds of technology, and if they had not been MISLED by Hitler, they probably would still be ahead of us in everything. Rocketry, the jet engine, swept wing aircraft design --- those rascals were GOOD.
By the same token, the Colt SAA and 1911 are still going strong which proves the genius of THOSE designs, too. The ancient .45 Colt round is nothing to sneeze at either, especially with modern design bullets. The original 1873 loads were pushing a 255 grain bullet at 800-800 fps, which is more powerful than the "proven manstopper" .45 ACP.
I like classic designs for entertainment purposes, but for saving my hide, I'm still sticking to the modern gun --- the revolver-simple Glock G30S --- with 110+ year old ammunition, the .45 ACP. Perfect combination of old and new. FOR ME.

Instead of saying "centerfire," I should have said it was the first DA pistol design that could handle a major caliber due to the locked-breech feature. I got in a hurry and wasn't specific enough.www.guns.com/2014/01/17/walther-p38-godfather-modern-combat-handgun/
