I took OK St for the same reason I took West Virginia last week. The #1 ISU QB was injured back about a month ago so they have been winning with defense. I figured, based on my recent years of good D/bad O at UF, that the time would come when the better teams would figure out a way to outscore ISU. That's exactly what happened the last 2 weeks and I have been rewarded accordingly in the picks. It was the difference between being above or below .500 this week and it added to a terrific week last week when I still couldn't beat out Coaltrain. Going in, I thought ISU was going to win outright, so my pick wasn't going to change anyway.
A 7 point spread is definitely different than 6.5. If, for instance, I thought Iowa State was good enough to play Okie State within 7 points or closer, I would pick Iowa State with a 7 point spread. But if that spread was 6.5, then I would pick Okie State. Well, I picked Okie State. Why? No one knows but me.

I doubt the 1/2 point would have made a difference to the only contestant affected either. My pick would have been Oklahoma State either way.

I doubt anyone would have made a change with a 1/2 point change. Why not? If one thought Iowa State could play Okie State within a TD, then ISU is the pick. But if that same person thought Okie State was 7 points better than ISU, then at 6.5 the pick would be Okie State. What is the purpose behind a fractional spread? Ask most any regular bettor, that 1/2 point makes them study the teams much harder.

In this particular case, even if I had seen the change it wouldn't have mattered as I thought ISU was going to win outright. My pick was going to stay the same. Now, if I had been paying attention to the spread and had seen the change...probably would have switched to OSU, but can't say that for certain.

Ok, I'm not arguing with anybody and yes, it there is money on the line, then I can see your point. I have been a bit amazed at the success of Iowa State this season and have actually picked against them every game. They have burnt me except for Saturday. Walt originally had them as a 7 dog and I felt Okie State was better and the Cyclones would fall out of their tower. At the end of the game I was actually rooting for them to win. When they lost by a TD and XP, I thought no big deal, I pushed on the game. After observing everyone else's outcome I noticed that the Cyclones were only a 6.5 dog rather than the 7 I originally had observed so I came out a winner on that game. I made the statement about the 1/2 point simply because this is nothing more than entertainment to me and hopefully for most of you too. Doc

I endeavor to get the line as current as I can and update the line every week just before posting. I hit send last week and immediately realized that I hadn't updated, hence the chaos. I think all would have been fine had I just announced the fix. THAT was the mistake. And FTR, if this tournament involved money there is no way I would be sneaking this in between design work. That would be irresponsible, serious stuff and much more important to nail.
