Looks like a lot of fun. I'd particularly enjoy the Luger, Garand and V/N era M-16.
The range I shoot on offers a few full auto guns to shoot, but I never really got the itch to do it. I recall an M-16 and a Thompson on the wall, but I don't remember the others they offer. Next time I go, I'll pay more attention to them. Still won't shoot them.

The MG42, "Hitler's zipper"... Oh what a sound! Yeah, all the German WWII guns would be fun to shoot from a historical perspecrtive. I think the MP-40 would be really cool. Did you notice the AD with the Luger when the RSO tried to clear the jam? And why can't people spell "LUGER?"

And why can't people spell "LUGER?" Yes, I did. I've always loved Lugers since I was a kid and handled one (didn't get to shoot it). The Luger is a marvel of engineering and precision manufacturing, but that was also its downfall with the German military. Tolerances too close to withstand the grime of combat and it was expensive to manufacture, which is not a good thing in wartime. I never warmed up to that Barchardt toggle-bolt action, either. It just looks clumsy.
I will admit that, to the best of my recollection, I have never held a Luger, but I understand that they do have a nice balance in the hand. I might have to find one somewhere just to see how it feels in my hand.
I prefer the P-38 since it was more durable in combat, and because of its major contributions to many of today's DA semiauto pistols. And, TO ME, it is the prettiest DA semiauto pistol ever designed. IF I decided to carry a 9MM openly, I would feel quite confident with my P-38.

Leave the Glock with the rest of the plastic guns, please. We were discussing real all metal guns, machined from steel, not poured into moulds.

We were discussing real all metal guns, machined from steel, not poured into moulds. bet my 'plastic' Glock will outlast your big bad 'steel' gun. and under any circumstanc4es. Quote Well, that's gonna be hard to determine. My P-38 was "born" in December of 1962 (55 y/o this month). My S&W 645 is already 30+ years old. My Colt Combat Commander was made in 1974, which makes it 43 years old. I shot a 1911A-1 from WWII that was every bit as clean and accurate as it was over 70 years ago. Let me know how your Glock is holding up when it turns 70. Until then, we KNOW the steel guns will last. How much will UV light affect your Glock over 70 years? We know UV degrades plastic.
In case you forgot, I own a Glock, too. But mine is in big boy caliber. I carry my ugly plastic Glock every day to protect my hide. 9MM's are for fun shooting. The average person will never shoot ANY handgun enough to wear it out. Professional competitors who shoot 10's of thousands of rounds a year can, but I doubt you or I will.

So it's good enough for professional competitors but not good enough for you... LOL.. No. Read slowly. I said pro shooters can wear out A gun. ANY GUN. I did not specify any brand.
You also can't read the second part. I said I stake my life on my Glock every day. If that is not confidence in a handgun, I don't know what is.
Your problem is you think Glocks are the best handguns out there. They are NOT. They are better for some applications like concealed carry, but no better than other handguns for open carry or combat. I carry my Glock not because it is a better product than my Colt --- no way will that happen --- but because I can draw and fire it as simply as a DA revolver. But where it FAILS compared to a revolver is that if there is a bad round in the chamber, a second pull on the trigger does NOTHING. My S&W 645 at least gives me another try at a hard primer before I have to go into the chamber clearing process.
For simple range shooting, handgun hunting, or open carry, MANY handguns are just as good or better than Glocks.

You have to try MUCH harder than that.
