It never ceases to amaze me that, as an institution, how tone deaf the Catholic Church is sometimes. IMO this guy deserved the same kind of funeral as bin Laden. He covered up hundreds (maybe thousands) of instances of child abuse. Sickening.

Both of us might need our ice skates down there...
I'm almost mad enough at President Blowhard and the GOP Congress to break some of the Ten Commandments.
Of course, according to the scriptures, I can pile hot coals on their crooked heads by simply praying for them...

My sis worked at the affliated Catholic high school. They walked away cold over this.

Tone deaf is an understatement. Boggles my mind. My mother was from a very devout Slovenian Catholic family, but my father refused to let her raise us in the Roman Catholic Church. When the news first came out of Boston about Cardinal Law, I asked my mother about it, and she said, "That kind of thing never happened here in Denver." Well, of course, it happened EVERYWHERE, as we eventually learned! It was ENDEMIC in the Roman Catholic Church. Unreal. My question. Was this a modern era RC phenomenon, or something inter-generational? I've never been one to bash the RC, but something truly awful has happened to that institution at some point in history. Of course, the Orthodox date the problem to 1054 A.D. and the Great Schism, but who knows?

This isn't about individuals or local parishes...we have friends who are Catholic and we have contributed to local events, fund raisers and the like. No issues there. That said, the business and corporate entity, i.e. "The Church" is another story.

james scaszar was the name of the priest, from up in new albany on the ne side... a former farm town that's become new money very upper middle class and higher in the last 20-30 yrs thanks to les wexner (longtime ceo/majority owner of 'l brands', formerly the limited retail chain, worth about $6.5b w/a b) who began upscale development there. scaszar had been on admin leave for a month or so by the columbus diocese since some 'improper' communication w/a minor surfaced, supposedly a 16 yr old, and it might have been connected with a misuse of $$ from a small parish about an hour east of columbus in rural perry county (town called new lexington). he'd worked there for about a dozen year before going to new albany in '16. very very popular young (mid 40s) priest.

This is sad, but be careful not to paint with too broad of a brush. I am not Catholic and I am saddened by the news of priests abusing young boys, however, it is not only Catholic priests who are guilty of abuse, we have politicians who are suspect of this same type of behavior. There are also countless priests and preachers and other members of the clergy who are doing wonderful work throughout the world. Much the same as our Brothers in Blue, just because we have a minute amount of bad apples it should not distract from the wonderful work and sacrifices that the majority of our police officers do. This guy however should have been put to rest quietly in a pine box with no ceremony.

That doesn't mean that all Catholics are bad and do evil things, but it DOES mean they are blinded and brainwashed by bullshit. The Catholic Church is a greedy and power-mad entity. Thankfully, billions of people throughout the world are immune to its corruption and evil. The only "religion" that is MORE evil is Islam.
OTOH, even though some cops are evil, that does not mean that the police system is an evil institution. Neither is our political system evil, although it seems that way at times. We just have too many of the wrong individuals in place within that system.

Mutt, Your argument implies the opposite of your opening premise. As for Church history, I see that you are still completely clueless, despite the fact that I have, repeatedly, referred you to the historical classics on the subject--viz., St. Luke's canonical Acts of the Apostles, and Eusebius Pamphilius's 4th century A.D. Ecclesiastical History. Do you know what the Five Patriarchates of the ancient Church are? Do you even know the quintessential Nicene Creed of the Church? The names of the Great Ecumenical Councils of the Church?

I follow my Lord and Savior Christ ---- AND NO ONE ELSE below the rank of GOD ALMIGHTY, and turn my back on the false prophets you worship. Your mortal men and their false directives mean NOTHING to a true Christian. You show a pattern ot believng LIARS --- the pope, catholic priests, trumped up figures from the Bible, socialism, communism and the Demoncrat Party. You are one totally screwed up individual, who is a sheeple doomed to fall over the abyss into the fires of Hell. Enjoy the ride.
