Today in Vietnam War History
1950 - The Soviet Union extended diplomatic recognition to North Vietnam.
1964 - In Vietnam, Nguyen Khanh led a bloodless coup but allowed General Duong Van Minh to stay as titular head of state.
1968 - Viet Cong force launched the Tet Offensive.
1975 - Operation Dewey Canyon II began. The operation's goal was to interdict the Ho Chi Minh Trail, advance the South Vietnamese to Tchepone in Laos, and destroy the North Vietnamese supply dumps in the area.
