Now what do I do?
For those of us who carry daily, this might help. One way or another, that bullet you fired will have a lawyer attached to it.

I carry a piece of paper in my wallet that spells out exactly what to do after being involved in a shooting. Just to remind me because it's gotta be hard to think straight after having been involved in a shooting.

As soon as the threat is ended, get away from the danger zone and call 911. Tell them you'll return to the scene as soon as the police are there. Be ready to get on the ground and\or be cuffed. Which btw, is more to my liking than being covered with a sheet. Only use as much force as it takes to end the threat. No more. KEY: END THE THREAT.

Do NOT leave the scene, unless the bad guy has buddies coming to get revenge."I had to leave, officer; I got worried.""Sure you did, pal. Where did you ditch the dope and money? Another drug deal gone bad."
Or in court: "You shot Didden Doonuffin and then did NOT try to render aid. You WANTED him to die, didn't you?"
No sense in raising unnecessary doubts.

I respectfully disagree. Because you just simply never know. I'm not talking about going home or across town. I mean get out of the immediate area if you feel uncomfortable in any way. Better to be safe than sorry. Especially if you have family members with you.

Better to be safe than sorry. Especially if you have family members with you. My experience says otherwise. When I rolled up on a scene, I wanted to know who did what as soon as possible. I once arrested a murder suspect who was calmly walking down the sidewalk after just having put a 12 gauge shotgun slug through his girlfriend's eye (and out the back of her head). I didn't even know anyone had been killed yet, but witnesses told me to grab him, so I did.

I used to like qualifying with the slugs. 25 yard head shots with a bead front sight. Compared to the slugs, the buckshot we used kicked like hell!

On the street, after you've ended one threat, there could possible be several more. Every situation can be different. If there are no cops in sight and one is uncomfortable at the scene, I say get out of the immediate area, stay on the line with 911 explaining the dangerous situation.

There is no single correct answer.

Don't mess with a shotgun slug! [/quote] 12 ga = 440 gr old school projectile of lead. Nasty medicine on big deer and big hogs. Still have my old Browning A-5 deerslayer, smooth bore. Not as good as the new 12 rounds w rifled barrels but good enough.
