I don't think the facts back up the claim, but as I said, ok by me. So you're calling the family liars No, haven't called anybody a liar. The AR-15 was in commercial use for 30+ years before Stoner died in 1997. That's plenty of time for him to voice an opinion somewhere and to somebody on the subject.

It wasnt being used to kill a bunch of innocent people back then either. Plus I'm willing to bet anything the number of AR 15s owned by regular citizens in 1997 are an extremely tiny fraction compared to today.

It wasnt being used to kill a bunch of innocent people back then either. You're proving the point that it's not the gun itself, it's the people. And, at that, a very small minority of people. The gun hasn't changed, but I can't say the same for people and our society as a whole.
Plus I'm willing to bet anything the number of AR 15s owned by regular citizens in 1997 are an extremely tiny fraction compared to today. Not sure what the relevance is there...

If 10 people had AR 15s in 1997 maybe that's the reason they weren't used for mass shootings. But now 60 million own them and now they're the choice of all mass shooters.

Don't know the number, but I'll assure you that more than 10 people bought the gun in 30-years. But now 60 million own them and now they're the choice of all mass shooters. Not even close to the right number and not even close to the truth on all mass shootings.

Hi-Points are being used all over Chicago, Baltimore, Cleveland, St. Louis, etc. and killing a lot more people than AR's ever will. Why aren't you crying about that?

Very selective stats and I get why you use them, but if you look at the history of mass shootings, far more are done with handguns. Expand the view to gun homicides only and that becomes even more true. Mass shootings (understandably) get a big play in the media, but the truth is they are rare occurrences. When it comes to gun violence, handguns are the big issue in this country, not AR-15's.

And the odds of using a gun for self defense is practically 0. Of the 30,000 or so gun deaths in 2016 there was only 250 documented cases of a gun being used for self defense or defense of others. So the guy freaks claiming all their guns are for self defense is BS And history??? List the top 10 deadliest shootings in all of American history. Then see how many of them used AR 15s How is that selective? Maybe because those mass shootings in 1945 they didnt have AR 15s that cause more people to be killed??

"Mass shootings" committed with an AR-15's is just a rallying point for idiots like Mike to gladly let government and anti-gun billionaires strip away their rights and freedom. When I see those big crowds protesting it makes me fear for the country knowing there are so many stupid people who don't realize what is actually going on here.

You're not helping your cause one bit. www.google.com/amp/s/www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/statistical-life/201701/the-true-odds-shooting-bad-guy-gun%3fampMore than 30,000 people are and shot and killed in the U.S. each year. About two-thirds of these, 20,000 people, are suicides. A bit less than a third of all gun deaths are homicides. That's about 10,000 people a year Homicides are often classified as one individual intentionally killing another. Walking into a room with a handgun you think isn't loaded and accidentally shooting your old girlfriend's boyfriend (who used to be your best friend) as he tries to jump out of the way is considered an accident by most law enforcement officials. Remember that. This is a case where guns kill people and people just stand around and watch. There are about 500 gun accidents of this kind a year. One out of 10 of them will be a child. About 250 Americans manage to shoot a bad guy per year Given that important caveat, let's do the math on what remains. After all, we're interested in how often bullets wind up in bad guys, not how often guns protect us. What we find is this: One justified gun death per 2 accidental deaths. Five justified deaths per accidental child death. About 1000 illegal deaths per justified death. About 100 suicides per justified death. About 100 homicides per 2 justified deaths. To add some more painful perspective, you are about 1500 times more likely to be shot by a true American than by a terrorist. Hunters, true Americans according to many, accidentally shoot about 1000 people a year, roughly 50 times more than terrorists. About 500 people a year are killed by mass shooters, still putting terrorists to shame. The reality seems to be that when our bullets don't wind up in non-human animals or street signs, then when you use one to shoot someone, about 99 times out of a 100, you will commit a felony, shoot yourself, or shoot someone by accident. In one out of a hundred cases, you shoot the bad guy.
