Cleaned the factory goop and grit out of it, and we're ready to go. Results were LESS than impressive. My groups looked like a Chinese Checkers board with a few marbles scattered all around! Tried all the tricks I know ...... proper sight alignment, proper hold on the gun, controlled breathing, concentration on the front sight, etc. etc.
My brother was with me and he shot the gun just fine. Of course that sucker can outshoot me with ANYTHING.
SO .......... I'm ashamed to admit it, but right now I'm scared of the gun. I developed a horrible flinch and even closed my eyes a few times before I squeezed the trigger. Yep, the Mighty MuttTM was intimidated. I was shooting the same style gun as the one that blew up on me, and I guess I couldn't get the mishap out of the back of my mind.
I'll be going back on Friday after I kick myself in the pants and beat it into my own head that it will never happen again, then I'm gonna jump back on the bronc that throwed me, and I am gonna show HIM who's boss.
P.S. I tell ya what .......... it's HARD to write something like that, but integrity, honesty, honor and his word are sometimes all a man has in the + department

So did you shoot it again? Yeah. I shot it last night. Damn gun is more accurate than I am (but that's true of ALL guns ). I should have taken pix of the target. I was only shooting at 7 yards, but one group was just one ragged hole made by 5 shots. You could put it in a coffee cup. I think the fear is past. I found out that 8.3 grains of Unique behind 200 and 230 grain bullets is way too hot for punching holes in paper. Muzzle flash was ridiculous, and it gives you a good hard kick in the hand. I'm going to load only 7.0 grains in my next batches, which is more like the Cowboy Action loadings. They will still do the "social job" if called upon, but for fun, much easier on the gun AND the shooter. I don't go to the range to prove I am "much hombre" and shoot the kickingest thing there is. Using extra powder also hits the old wallet harder. With 7 grain loads, you can get 1000 rounds from one pound of powder.
I had to laugh, though. There were blacks on either side of me, shooting their semiauto pistols just as fast as they could. At 20 feet, their shots were scattered ALL OVER a B-27 target. One guy (black) even had a bullpup shotgun, and an FN Five Seven. He was actually a real nice guy, so I offered him some shooting tips and he did much better. He offered to let me shoot his 5-7 and I did, but I really didn't like the gun, and it ejected empties right back on top of my head. As far as recoil and such, it's an easy shooting gun, but at $1500 or so, I don't want one! I offered to let him shoot my "cowboy gun" but he declined. FTR, anyone who thinks the old .45 Colt from the 1870's is outdated as a defense round has never shot one. It can easily match and outperform the "manstopper" .45ACP.

My neighbor has an old legendary Colt 45. I've shot it a few times...what a beautiful weapon. But much heavier than I thought it would be and it does pack a bit of a wallop. Beautiful piece of metal though. Strap that sucker on your hip, throw on your cowboy hat, saunter down the street and you will capture some attention from passerbys.

Beautiful piece of metal though. Strap that sucker on your hip, throw on your cowboy hat, saunter down the street and you will capture some attention from passerbys. That old frame and grip just settle sweetly in your hand. My 4.75" Peacemaker has a great balance to it, while the 7.5" Remington is naturally nose heavy. The rounded backstrap allows the gun to roll back in your hand, putting the hammer under your thumb ready to re-cock. They just aren't suitable for every day self-defense any more, but for pure fun handgun shooting, you can't beat those old revolvers. And I simply love that .45 Colt cartridge!
I DO have the gunslinger rig for the Colt, hat and boots, but what if John Wesley Hardin shows up to call me out? Not sure I could retreat safely. My horse is in the shop. To be on the safe side, I just keep the gunbelt and gun hanging on the wall, but the 15 bullet loops ARE filled with live rounds. Just in case (?). No, I've never dressed up as a cowboy, at least not since I was 8 years old or so ......................

Ummmmmmmmm ............ NO Well you were dressed up as Duane not too long ago in the photo op you posted, just not shredding on some badass Hotel California riffs I reckon. No, I just grew the facial hair for a while. I got tired of all the grey and shaved it off, though.
And what does that have to do with an 1875 Remington, except that lots of people had facial hair like Duane's back in the 1800's?
