USC won its 10th national championship in water polo this past weekend, beating Stanford.
Here's a really amazing statistic. Since they started playing water polo as a national championship event nearly a half century ago, no team has won the title that isn't from California, and Cal, UCLA, USC and Stanford account for 44 of the 47 NCs. In addition, no team other than a California team has even played in the finals.
Cal 14 NCs UCLA 11 NCs USC 10 NCs Stanford 9 NCs UCIrvine 2 NCs Pepperdine 1 NC.
That's it. No other teams have won the title. And all NC game runnerups are either one of the team above or UC San Diego, Long Beach St. San Jose St. or U of Pacific.

If I had just arrived here from Mars my first guess would be USC didn’t have a very successful football season in 2018. 😂 That said, congrats to your Trojans.

If I had a Pepperdine Water Polo team jersey I'd wear it daily. I can't wear my Yale Intramural Naked Volleyball Champions jersey anymore. It's getting a bit threadbare now.

And just to clarify, I have no interest in water polo at all. The only reason I happen to know Florida has a bunch of teams is a friend of mine's two daughters both played so I was curious to know how big of a sport it might actually be. Sure enough... bigger than I thought.

Sure enough... bigger than I thought. I used to play it a lot between long course and short course season, but as a game, I never found it terribly interesting. Soccer on water always seemed contrived to me, and geeez.....the cheating below the waterline is epic.
