No I DON'T live in B.R. I live in a town of 5,000 across the river. I AM 10 minutes away from Tiger Stadium, though.
When I go to BR, I SHOULD carry an extra mag, but I don't. Across the river..?.. so you're sayin' thugs can't swim..?.. that's racist.. We have two bridges, and some of them can actually drive.
NOBODY swims across the Mississippi at Baton Rouge. That's suicide.

I always aim for the face... Groin's a good spot too. Never know when a zombie ( or bad guy ) is wearing body armor. You csn bet your last dollar that if I ever have the misfortune to come face to face with an active shooter, That's where I'll try to place a few quick shots. You'll shoot at the largest available target.
Don't expect the bad guy to be standing still. You are also forgetting that HE has a gun too, and doesn't care if he hurts you.
Y'all need to deal with some real bad guys who are intent on doing bad things before you say "I'll do this ......." Just sayin' ........

I don't expect the bad guy to be standing still when I shoot his balls off. I expect him to scream in pain and fold like a cheap tent as I look around to see if he has a partner, or two. I know he doesn't care who he hurts, that's obvious. That's why I won't feel too bad when he's lying in a pool of his own blood. If I get hit, oh well. Life's not fair. Not this life anyway. A lot of sick crazy people out there.

I shoot at pigeons named Clay. For an added challenge, do ten burpees or twenty five pushups, ( get your breath back a little ) before grabbing the shotgun and yellin' PULL.

Like I said, deal with some REAL bad guys in non-lethal situations before you tell us what you'll do when things get much worse than that.
If you miss "his balls," who are you going to hit behind him? The bad guy doesn't have to hold his fire. YOU DO. How would you enjoy shooting an innocent person in HIS femoral artery?

I just told you what I would do. FTR, I've dealt with some bad guys in a non-lethal situation. more than once. Although at the time, I didn't think it was going to be 'non-lethal'. but just for YOU, I'll make sure it's a REAL bad guy before I put a round or two in him.

I hope I don't see me like THIS either. If you're too afraid to use your firearm, why carry it..?.. Seems like a lot of 'back strain' for nuttin'. The guy probably thought he was about to be shot anyway, so he went for it. Hopefully the thugs left with one of his rounds in 'em as a parting gift.

When it is 2 on one and they are not neatly stacked behind each other, you do NOT shoot unless you have no other choice. Take cover and be a good witness. The guy had no body armor, he was standing out in the open making himself an easy target, and he apparently wasn't a very good shot.
We'll never know what he was thinking, because he unnecessarily got himself killed and can't answer questions.

Shot placement is key, especially when he chose to engage them. As close as he was, he could have put a round through each of their brainless heads. If one is going to carry a firearm, then one should be proficient with that firearm. In this case, as it is in a lot of cases, it was literally a matter of life and death.

No, it was NOT life and death. They were moving. Can YOU hit a moving human in the head without a whole lot of luck involved, while you are terrified (or should be)? Can you hit TWO of them? I'm gonna bet "no." Even shooting at moving targets can't compare to shooting at moving targets who are shooting back.
The two bad guys went into the back room, out of view of the good guy. Instead of taking cover, he chose to stand in the open and confront them as they came out. HE forced THEIR hand. Bad decision #1. I don't know who shot first, but it looks like the bad guy was more proficient. Never underestimate your opponent. Bad decision #2. At that point, no shots had been fired, no one had been injured, and he tried to stop them as they left with only money. Bad decision #3. It's JUST money.
Chances are good that if he had not confronted them, they would have simply run out the door with money. Nothing else.
John Wayne is dead. So is this wannabe John Wayne. Ask his family if it was worth it. They say they are proud of him, but now he is gone FOREVER. They get to stand at his grave and say "We're proud of you."

The good guy is dead because he couldn't hit a 1 foot x 1 foot target from 5 feet away. If he's able to place a shot center of mass (from 5 feet away), he most likely lives to tell the tale. So yeah, his lack of shot placement was literally life and death. Yeah, they were moving, but for a second or two, he has his weapon pointed and he has a clear shot across the counter, ( five feet away ) at the torso, or head, of the bad guy(s) He misses. He dies. He put shots on target, he most likely lives. Life and death. Hindsight is 20\20. Who's to say had he just stood there, they wouldn't have shot at him as they fled..?.. They probably wouldn't have but who knows for sure what they intended to do.. They were both armed which means they had the ability and the intent to do great bodily harm. The lesson to be learned here is being able to quickly put shots on target. One has to address this possible situation BEFORE it ever happens. Not WHEN it happens. One has to 'wait his turn.' Apparently for this guy, 'his turn' to pull his weapon and start firing would have been when they were running out the door with their backs to him. Hindsight. He decided to engage when he did ( while not seeking cover ) and he paid the ultimate price.

If he had been behind cover, they most likely would have paid him no attention. After a robbery, they just want to get the hell out of there, unimpeded. He impeded them.
Like I said, you are ignoring adrenaline and fear in a real life situation. You've watched too many movies and TV. The bad guy DIDN'T MISS, so obviously he practices all the time on the range, right? Practicing when you KNOW there is no real danger doesn't mean shit. Sorry.
Do whatever you want to. It's your hide, and your family you could leave behind.
I am RETIRED cop. It's no longer my job to hunt down and arrest bad guys. I carry my gun for SELF DEFENSE and defense of other PEOPLE. I don't give a damn if they run off with a million dollars. That money can be replaced. I can't. You want the whole truth? I can't say exactly what I'll do if I ever get in that situation. To sit here and say "I'll do THIS, and I'll do THAT" is total nonsense.
If I am with my family, my first priority is to THEM.
I have been shot at --- in my personal car, WITH my family back when I was still a cop. My car was hit twice, with one bullet narrowly missing one of my daughters. Thankfully it didn't penetrate, and it was .45ACP hardball. I KNOW the fear and shock of being shot at on purpose.
If I had been alone, I would have chased them to hell and back. With my family, it was tuck and run. So yes, I have been there, and I had no opportunity to shoot back. MY gun was in the glove compartment. That never happened again.
You go ahead and play hero. I am going to play the doddering old man who didn't get killed stupidly.
