FAMOUS IDAHO POTATO BOWL – BOISE, IDAHO3:30P (6-6) WYOMING VS (7-6) KENT STATE +3, (OPEN -3.5). winthe cowboys are weak on offense (23 ppg, 361 yds/game) but good on d (22 ppg, 347) while the flashes are the opposite (33/481 on offense, 35/467 on d, the worst of any bowl team). add in kent's 1-5 ats record as a dog, gimme the chalk. wyoming. 2. FRISCO BOWL – FRISCO, TEXAS7:30P (11-2) SAN DIEGO STATE VS (12-1) TEXAS SAN ANTONIO +2.5, (OPEN -2.5). loss.the aztecs' offense was basically offensive this year (320 yds/game, 26 pts) but the d was top notch (19 ppg, 320/game). the roadrunners were much better on offense (443/38) and nearly as good on d (364/24). after getting blown out by utah st in the mwc title game, that left san diego st just 2-5 in terms of stats vs bowl opponents. utsa struggled a little down the stretch as the pressure rose to stay unbeaten, but played well vs wku in the c-usa title game and imho is more excited for this one. plus bowl teams off a ccg win as an underdog are 12-4 ats of late. texas-san antonio. WORTH, TEXAS8:00P (6-6) MISSOURI VS (8-4) ARMY -4, (OPEN -2.5). lossspeaking of motivation, here's a cfb nerd stat for you; military schools since 1980 are 37-14 ats in bowl games, and 6-0 ats off a favorite loss (army upset by navy last week). mizzou went 1-4 su/0-5 ats when they allowed a foe to rush for 200+ in a game, and is 120th in fbs when it comes to yards allowed per carry. the cadets are #2 when it comes to ground attack (286/game). the tigers should be able to pass it, but my experience thanksgiving weekend was just the latest example that a dominant run game carries more weight. army. THURSDAY, 23 DEC 4. FRISCO FOOTBALL CLASSIC – FRISCO, TEXAS3:30P MIAMI OHIO VS NORTH TEXAS +3, (OPEN +4.5). lossin 4 bowl games so far this year, mac schools are allowing an average of 48 ppg. makes it kind of tough to see any maction action on chalk here. bowl favorites off a su favorite loss are just 2-9 ats. meanwhile the mean green won its last 5, covered its last 6, and allowed just 304 yds/game in its last 4. north texas. 5. GASPARILLA BOWL – TAMPA BAY, FLORIDA7:00P (8-4) CENTRAL FLORIDA VS (6-6) FLORIDA -6.5, (OPEN -6). winuf has the talent edge, they played a much tougher schedule. ucf lost its starting qb in week 3, their 2 top rb's before the season even began, and had tons of injuries woes on defense. the knights lost as many games this year (4) as they did the last 3 season combined (that would be 4). you'd think that would add up to the gators covering easily. but it's not just that uf limped home this season losing 4 of its last 6; florida was #121 in net turnover ratio in '21. that's the 2nd worst of any bowl team. they went 1-6 su/2-5 ats vs bowl opponents. plus there would appear to be a lot more post-season mojo on the ucf side. central florida. FRIDAY, 24 DEC 6. HAWAII BOWL – HONOLULU, HAWAII8:00P (6-6) MEMPHIS VS (6-7) HAWAII +8.5, (OPEN +4). ppdthis line has skyrocketed after uh coach todd graham was reported to be getting heat internally for player mistreatment, plus losing their starting qb/rb to the transfer portal. but this is still a bowl team getting points inside its own stadium. mwc bowl dogs getting 5+ are 7-0 ats the last 7 years, and the rainbow warriors are 3-1 ats the last 4 post season games. on the other side, the tigers went 2-5 su/ats vs bowl opponents in '21, getting out rushed by an average of 164-93 in those games, and have yet to cover a road game this year. hawaii. SATURDAY, 25 DEC 7. CAMILLIA BOWL – MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA2:30P (6-6) BALL STATE VS (7-5) GEORGIA STATE -5, (OPEN -3). windid I mention the mac's bowl struggles? bsu outgained just 1 of its 11 foes in the regular season, and averaged just 336 yds/game on offense. it's nothing short of a miracle they're playing , so there's not much pressure here. and the cardinals did win the arizona bowl last year as 8 pt dogs to cap off a 7-1 season. but (cfb nerd stat alert) bowl dogs in the 2nd of back/back years getting points are just 9-24 ats. gsu averaged 225/game rushing this year, and I expect that to continue christmas day. georgia state.
