6-Year-Old Shoots Teacher in Virginia

I DO see an obvious parental failure here.  My girls were taught from the time they were old enough to walk, that they did NOT touch any gun without adult consent and supervision.   I never had a problem with any of my kids and guns, and they all learned to shoot pretty damn well.
My two younger girls always have their handguns with them, and so does my oldest granddaughter, who also owns and loves to shoot her AR.

You have a grandaughter old enough to own a gun?
Reminds me of my father lamenting that he has three children getting social security checks.

My oldest grandson is 26, and my oldest granddaughter is 23.  And she bought her boyfriend a .22 revolver for Christmas, since he bought her an AR for her birthday.  But she also owns her own 9mm pistol.

Yes, I am old, but with that age came the wisdom to recognize that Demonrats are the enemies of American freedom.

My "little" sister hosted an extended family Christmas party last month--about 25-30 people, where I met three great nephews and great nieces (from out-of-state) for the first time.

I suddenly realized at the party that I was the oldest geezer attending.  Weird feeling-- being the old uncle in the room.

I always wanted to be great, and I'm now a great uncle to eight young people, ranging in age from 4 to 25.

(My three older siblings weren't able to attend the party.)

Gregory said the class was reading and about to go to art class when the child pulled a handgun from their backpack and pointed it at his teacher, Abby Zwerner. “She was going to confiscate it, and that’s when he shot,” Gregory told the Post. Gregory described Zwerner as a “sweet lady” and “very attentive”. She said Zwerner was her son’s favorite teacher. Zwerner, 25, had injuries described as life-threatening but she is now continuing to improve in the hospital. She was shot in the abdomen through her hand. After she was shot, the teacher told the other students to run. The students stayed in lockdown in another teacher’s classroom.

It is not known how the child came to be in possession of the handgun he used to shoot his teacher. The six-year old remains in custody and Newport News city officials have said it is not likely a child so young can be prosecuted, but his guardian or other adult could face misdemeanor charges if the gun came from the child’s home.

The Newport News mayor, Phillip Jones, said: “Newport News is a strong community, but we are saddened and disheartened by the terrible tragedy that took place at Richneck elementary school. It is almost impossible to wrap our minds around the fact that a six-year-old first-grader brought a loaded handgun to our school and shot a teacher; however, this is exactly what our community is grappling with today. Our thoughts and prayers are with the teacher and her family, and we are hopeful she will recover from this ordeal.” 

The fool teacher tried to confiscate the gun? The child probably equated her foolish actions as her trying to steal his property and shot her in self defense. The child certainly was not right to do this, but the teacher has to share some of the blame.

No, you are not correct. Sorry.

The parents and the people who were forewarned but could not find the gun are to blame.

It's just like the 3 year old who was playing with a loaded gun.  You don't blame the gun, or in the case of the 3 year old, the child.    You blame the parents.

And I have no problem with saying that some people are too stupid and irresponsible to own guns.

The problem is, just like with voting, you don't have to pass an IQ or knowledge test to exercise the right.
