Yeah, right, I never answer questions. Meanwhile, still waiting for you to tell us how the new Senate bill secures the border. You disappeared from that thread pretty fast... I did? I posted parts of it, gleaned from news reports, for discussion here. Then you vanished. I didn't vanish. I told you why the parts you mentioned don't help border security, and told you to try again. Still waiting...

It helps border security, just not as much as you'd like. And as I noted, never mind that 'as much as you'd like' would require violation of an international treaty of which the United States is a signatory. So, nope...It's time for YOU to try again. I'll wait.

Thanks for telling us how little you understand about the problem. Here is the law, as dictated by our having signed an international treaty regarding asylum. 8 US 1158 Any alien who is physically present in the United States or who arrives in the United States (whether or not at a designated port of arrival and including an alien who is brought to the United States after having been interdicted in international or United States waters), irrespective of such alien’s status, may apply for asylum in accordance with this section or, where applicable, section 1225(b) of this title.Once aliens are physically present on US land, they have the right to request asylum, whether or not the Texas Nat'l Guard or the border patrol apprehends them. Those aliens, standing along the American side of the river between the US and Mexico, and kept off dry land by a dumbass governor who erected razor wire along the shore, are all entitled BY LAW to request asylum, and the dumbass governor is violating the law by not allowing it. THAT is the problem. The Senate bill does a workaround on the treaty requirement by creating a mechanism analogous to the public health emergency mechanism that Trump used to stop the flow and that expired at the end of the pandemic. The GOP is now officially opposed to that mechanism being created that would allow shutting down the border. That's where we are now.
