Feel good moment after practice as 2 walkons are put on scholarships: floridagators.com/news/2018/8/20/football-mullen-surprises-walk-ons-raymond-and-villano.aspxI wouldn't be surprised to see another ship given out to a deserving walkon by the end of camp this week. If so, Friday night would be a good time to do it as the Gators will do a dress rehearsal for the season opener. UF has 81 ship players with the 2 walkons who have earned their ships. The Gators will be sitting pretty well with their numbers entering the season if they can get through the last week of camp and practice in game week without any season ending injuries. So far, the only player in that category is safety Quincy Lenton who was slated for the 2 deep. Iverson Clement RB has temporarily, we'll see if it's temporary, moved to safety to help shore up the depth with minor dings affecting players practicing.

Just as an aside....gonna do your season prediction for the Gators here in the next day or two? I’m reading all kinds of predictions from dark horse playoff contenders to a .500 ball club. What say ye?

What say ye? 8-4 to 10-2, say 9-3. I don't believe .500 or playoff team. I wish I had more confidence in the QB/OL. The rest of the team will be outstanding. I know Feleipe Franks can throw the ball 70 yards, but can he read the defense to check in to the right play to move the chains? Has OL learned how to pass block and pick up blitzes? Related, can the RBs be effective in their QB protection? I don't know.

Other than Georgia, I don’t see any team on your schedule that you all can’t beat in conference.

Good opening scrimmage game against a practice team, 53-6 UF - the Gators open for real next weekend against UK - this from floridagators.com: floridagators.com/news/2018/9/1/chris-harry-the-quick-slant-florida-charleston-southern-sept-1.aspxThe Gators get a win so there is that, but we won't know anything about UF until after the UK game. I still don't know if UF has an OL that is worth a damn. Franks QB play gives me hope for better in 2018. UF played second string in the 3rd quarter and the third string in the 4th quarter after having played the first string for the first half.

BetOnline.com opened the UK at UF spread at -15 UF. I expect the spread to hold at -14+.

9.3.2018 - Dan Mullens presser:
Expects crowd to be larger for UK
UK will be tough game/great challenge
Streak has nothing to do with the game
Winning 1st SEC game is the focus of the week
Playing a lot of players in the second half let them see why they aren't starters
First used jump pass at Utah with Alex Smith on a 2 point conversion to win a 2 OT game
Brian Johnson (QB coach) called the jump pass at the perfect time
Have to be a lot better if this is going to become a good football team
Blocked kicks were 2 of the best plays of the game
Malik Davis took a huge hit on his knee and kept going - he's back
UK RB Benny Small is dynamic, but you have to stop UK's other threats too
Tackling needs to be better (missed tackle at LOS allowed long run before the half) and running cleaner
Kyle Trask did a great job to get the O back into FG range after his first snap sailed over his head
Would like to have 30 D players ready for UK
Injuries (Didn't address the 7 suspensions and won't until next Saturday:
David Reese (LB) is questionable - may be back later this week (I'd bet on Colorado State to get ready for at UT) Shawn Davis (S) is out CJ McWilliams (CB) is back Brett Heggie (LG/C) has a ways to go to get back on the field
Kept it simple for Feleipe Franks in game 1
SEC - this being his 14th year, the number of quality teams in the SEC is what sets apart the SEC from everybody else. All coaches would say the top team from their conference could compete with the top team in the SEC, but the depth at the top of the league is deeper than anywhere else. In the SEC, you better buckle it up.

UF's depth chart for the Kentucky game: floridagators.com/news/2018/9/3/football-gators-release-depth-chart-for-kentucky-game.aspxBrett Heggie LG/C is a question for me. Maybe I misunderstood Mullen's comment about him from his presser today. Shawn Davis S is out, won't play. I don't know why he is showing at 2 on the S depth chart. David Reese LB is questionable. If he can practice later in the week, he can play. I suspect he'll return against Colorado State so he can get ready for at Tennessee. He still looked hobbled on the sideline on Saturday night. There is no need to rush him back before he is ready. It would be a shame for him to tweak his ankle sprain which could force him to miss Colorado State, at Tennessee, at Mississippi State, and possibly LSU. There is no reason to risk turning a regular ankle sprain into the time missed of a high ankle sprain when he could be 100% next week. If the depth chart is an indication, the suspended players from last week are being allowed to return this week for Kentucky.

We won't see this much talk about Kentucky again until the start of the men's basketball season: floridagators.com/news/2018/9/3/chris-harry-sec-season-is-here-again-and-so-is-talk-about-streak.aspxCHARTING THE GATORS UF's 31-game winning streak over Kentucky stands as the longest active winning streak for one program over another in FBS classification, and the fourth-longest in NCAA Division I history. A victory Saturday would push the Gators into a tie for the third-longest. Here are the top eight. Streak Team vs Team Years 43 Notre Dame over Navy 1964-2006 36 Nebraska over Kansas 1969-2004 32 Oklahoma over Kansas State 1937-1968 31 Florida over Kentucky 1987-present 29 Nebraska over Kansas State 1969-1997 28 Texas over Rice 1966-1993 26 Syracuse over Hobart 1906-1931 26 Tennessee over Kentucky 1985-2010
