And now the Gators have lost Graham Mertz for the season, and apparently his CFB career.
That's a real shame. I like his style. I don't think Lagway can measure up. Not this year, anyway.
The Gators are gonna need a really souped up D for the rest of the season.
No, I am NOT happy about it. I like UF to be at their best when they play the Tigers.
But WE have lost some important key players too, so that game might be one to win for the Gimper.

The freshman is better than the senior. I'm sorry Graham Mertz was college career ended, but I'm happy DJ Lagway is getting the experience he needs. He is a 6'3"/240 horse that has to be ridden. DJ is the future of college football regardless of who the HC is in 2025. He can be a Tim Tebow type of player with the right coaching. The D finally played a complete game at UTn. If not for CBN screw ups, it could have been 20-0 at the half. UF dominated and only had 3-0 to show for it. Napier is his own worst enemy. When he refused to hire an OC to call plays after last season, I knew this was going to be his swan song. He may make it through the season, but he is dead coach walking with UF.

Tim Tebow? It remains to be seen if DJ has Tim's football smarts. Physical talents are one thing, but knowing when and how to use them is another. I HATED Tim Tebow as the Gators' QB, but I admire him immensely as a clean living, intelligent young man.
I hope y'all get a new HC too. The players deserve better.

I don't hit this board much anymore either. Glad to hear you beat it again. UF looks like they will win tonight again UK. Two more wins to bowl eligible and y'all should beat FSU. I heard before the year considered your schedule that 6-6 would probably save Billy's job. Thoughts?

I heard before the year considered your schedule that 6-6 would probably save Billy's job. Thoughts? Darrell, unfortunately, I think you are right. UF is 4-3 (2-2), should be 5-2 (3-1), because of Billy Napier, not the players. The players deserve better coaching to match their efforts. Napier 100% blew a win at UTn last week, but he made fewer errors last night, at least concealed in a 48-20 win over a decent UK team. Napier can still make it to 2025, but he has to be better as a HC in his decisions. Examples from last night: 1. Put our 6'3"/240 QB under center at the UK one yard line and then turned and handed off to the RB who was stopped short by what has been a stout wildcat run stop defense. UF had to settle for a FG. He did the same thing at UTn except from the gun and got the same result. At least he moved the QB under center this week. He should have let that big boy follow his center even if he just fell forward into the endzone. 2. With 1:30 left in the 1st half and with 2 timeouts, Napier decided to try to run out the clock out rather than to try for a FG or a TD. Mark Stoops tried to get the ball back by calling timeouts for himself. (shaking head) Napier chose to sit on a 27-13 lead. The UF crowd lightly booed, and it was well deserved. His lack of aggression showed when UK came out to start the 3rd quarter and drove for a TD to make it a close game at 27-20. The D was flat, and the UK offense was aggressive. Lack of aggression in the SEC is not a signal you want to send to your players. If Napier makes his usual mistakes 2 weeks from now in Jax against the poodles, the Gators will get their butts stomped by the poodles again. Napier needs to coach a mistake free coaching effort for the Gators to stay in the game. Win? I'd be shocked, but stranger things have happened in the WLOCP. Napier at 6-6 will likely get year 4 if for no other reason than to reduce his buyout. I can't count at FSU as it is a rivalry game in which anything can happen as you well know. LSU and Ole Miss come to Gainesville. The players can play with them, but I doubt Napier can coach with them. At Texas = no chance, especially after the shorthorns lost to the poodles. I honestly don't believe Napier can deliver 2 more wins. The Ace in the hole is true freshman starting QB DJ Lagway. He's physically like Tim Tebow both being 6'3"/240. He can pass and run equally well, a better passer than Tebow at this stage in his career. The so-called experts were all in on Anthony Richardson who is the starter with the Colts, but Lagway is better, not even close plus he should have been starting from day 1. If Napier can get out of his own mistake filled ways and let his players do their best, it's possible UF could pull 2 more wins. I'm just not sure 6-6 will get Napier back if the Bull Gators are ready to pay up a buyout. I've always thought Jeremy Foley had it right, if you have to do it eventually, do it now. Last we talked, you had some back troubles or was it your knees. How are you doing?

There's a learning curve that every youngster has to master, and we have to remember they ARE kids. I've looked at the faces inside those helmets, and so many of them look like they should be in 9th grade.
One game at a time, and every gain is a battle won in the overall war.

Physically impressive but did so little with so much physical abilities. I didn't understand the Colts taking him so high and he hasn't done much there so far. Maybe he turns it around with coaching. As for me, doing great. Got a new left knee and both hips are new as well. Still will likely have to do the right knee eventually but it's doing fairly well for now. Gave away my scooter and my walker but still use a cane out and about. In the house I trust my legs enough to walk without even the cane. Unfortunately I cannot get a new back. I have just enough stenosis in a few locations to cause a pretty deep ache in the back when I stand too long. I've pretty much gotten use to that though and am able to be a lot more active then I was for years.

You're sandbagging with a team that almost pulled an historic comeback at bama and beat #1 ranked UTex in Austin. We both know Smart has the players to win it all this year. The Gators are no match without a considerable amount of luck and Napier getting out of his own way. It's UGALY by 2 to 3 TDs. I will say the UF D has been playing well the last few weeks, but neither UTn nor UK are in the same vicinity with UGALY.
