Interesting to see your opinion of what marriage and family are…
There are many definitions for both, involving many types of "things". The evolution of their various meanings that predates even the evolution of man-evolved religion. Both evolutions spanning hundreds of thousands of years. Within each time-line iteration, adapting the use of those concepts to fit their needs, be it "humans" practicing, social groups legislating or sociologists/theologians/historians/scientists defining.
For me marriage, at its core is a state of being united. Water is a marriage of H and 2 parts O, combined w other physical necessities gives it its state of being (Perhaps water V ice). Depending on those physical necessities sometimes many in that family of marriages. Family, at its core, is a group, for me. Why is it any of the government's business who I choose to live with? |

The consequences of the neolithic revolution included a population explosion and an acceleration in the pace of technological development. The transition from foraging bands to larger "cities" brought about laws and parallel to that development of forms of society standards. Somewhere later they also developed "religion" that reflected the new social and political environment. And evolution pressed on.
Somewhere in time, each society defined the answer to your Q. It's "our" business because we decided it was our business, except when we don't.
Today, few bark when two 85 yr old women, retired in Florida, whose kids/grandkids see them once a year, maybe, if they even have them, decide to live together, as a couple, knowing that by 85 the numbers of M & F don't even out. Somehow everyone shrugs, maybe even applauds. How about at 75 or 65 or 55? Or any X5. |

A rather misogynistic comment on his part. She did have an affair with Aldean while he was still married to another woman. That puts her in the same league as Gavin Newsome. |
