that, according to the NCAA, the combination of paying off agents to direct players to your team, hiring hookers and payingfor players and lying directly to the NCAA about it all is just 2/3 as bad as what USC did.
Oregon, OhioSt and Miami together got a total of 20 scholarships chopped off. USC got 30.
UNBELIEVABLE.....

Miami, on the other hand, was a case of the NCAA investigators getting caught creating false evidence and they are trying to save face.

When the USC investigation was happening, many of us who have been screwed by the NCAA warned what could happen. The responses were typically in the vein of "We don't cheat like you did" and "We're USC, we're different". The USC administration adopted the same approach in many ways. When the sanctions came down, we warned USC fans how devastating they were. The response? "We're USC, we'll still win 10 games a year". Walt, you were not spouting that stuff as much as others, but I can't help but feel a little schadenfreude seeing USC fans bitch and moan about the sanctions when they were warned many times, and USC fans dismissed anyone making the warning as a simpleton.

You are missing the point. I'll cop to all you posted about USC's fans.... I am one of them. I admit I didn't quite comprehend what it meant to a program to lose that many scholarships. But let's cut to the chase here. The POINT is fairness. USC's faults are dwarfed by UM's transgressions even if only a third of Shapiro's accusations are true, and they get 1/3 the punishment because....why? And the icing on the cake is that the guy dishing out the punishment to USC was the very guy that ran the brothels and oversaw the payments while in Miami!

You'll never see me defend the NCAA. I ranted about them for years after they screwed UF in 1990, but those rants fell on the same deaf ears your complaints are falling on now. However, every time the NCAA pulls this same shit, i.e. wildly inconsistent penalties, their credibility drops. The botched Miami investigation just adds to that. I gave up on my hatred and vendetta against the NCAA 15 years ago because no one would listen and it seemed a lost cause. I now just watch others tilt at that same windmill, normally laughing because I understand how frustrating and futile it is, and also because sometimes the current people tilting were the same ones who meet my rants in the past with derision. But who knows, maybe that f-ing windmill will finally fall.

But who knows, maybe that f-ing windmill will finally fall. It appears you continue to base your opinions on the original Yahoo story, with no regard to the many errors contained, and not at all on the final report. That has be rehashed to death already, but what truly amazes me is that USC fans continue to ignore that which is the biggest factor in your final outcome. The USC investigation dragged on and on primarily because USC put up every roadblock they could and played dumb, refusing to cooperate and constantly denying anything and everything. UM took the opposite approach, actually self reporting and initiating the investigation themselves, and then bending over backwards to be open and honest with the NCAA in every phase of the investigation. Despite all of that, the NCAA still could not find any horrendous transgressions by the university. They were, in fact, so desperate to pin anything they could on Miami that they bent, no, obliterated their own rules and still didn't come up with much. In short, USC brought their penalties on themselves by their own lack of cooperation with the investigation while Miami apparently lessened penalties by being as cooperative as they could be.

The answer to the NCAA is to deny, deny, deny, lie, lie, lie...if that appears to be not working, then you change tact to lie, lie, lie, deny, deny, deny, deny... ESPECIALLY if you're from the south.
