Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl Middle Tennessee +6 1/2 vs. Navy. navy's qb reynolds runs the option to perfection, but the middies struggle vs teams who can pass effectively, and the blue raiders proved in the 2nd half of the year that they can score thru the air as well as on the ground. mid tenn st. Franklin Amer. Mort. Music City Bowl Georgia Tech +3 vs. Ole Miss. both teams started 3-0 this year then stalled. gt has struggled in bowls under johnson, though. rebs don't see much option in the sec, but i think they'll score enough w/wallace under center to overcome that. mississippi. Valero Alamo Bowl Oregon -13 1/2 vs. Texas. uo is 2 td's better than the horn on paper. but if the ducks weren't excited about dropping to the rose bowl, how do they feel about san antonio? after a shaky start the horns' d started playing a lot better in october. they have the talent to hang w/oregon, they'll have a big crowd edge and brown's finale gives them some extra juice. texas. National University Holiday Bowl Arizona State -14 vs. Texas Tech. like uo, you'd think asu should walk away with this one. clearly better on both sides of the ball. but i wonder about how they bounce back from a shocker loss to arizona, knocking them out of the pac 12 title game. tech can put up pts, but their d stinks. that said, coming in off 5 straight losses, the raiders figure to feel no pressure. betting nerd stat of the week; non-new year's day bowl teams off 5 straight ats losses have covered 8 in a row. this nerd will roll the dice. texas tech. AdvoCare V100 Bowl Arizona -7 1/2 vs. Boston College. nice matchup featuring 2 of the better rb's this year in williams (bc) and carey (ua). both teams are pretty similar... very physical on the los. bc's kicker hasn't missed a fg this year, going 18-18. i think he's the difference. boston college. Hyundai Sun Bowl UCLA -7 vs. Virginia Tech. 21st straight bowl for the hokies under beamer, 2nd longest streak in cfb (fla st-32). vt's d is awesome, but qb thomas continues to puzzle me. you think he's more talented than what he produces on the field. but ucla starts 3 frosh on its o-line... not a recipe to cover a td spread. va tech. AutoZone Liberty Bowl Mississippi State -7 vs. Rice. msu went 6-6 vs a top 10 schedule; rice won its league going 10-3 vs a 100+ slate. bulldogs are physical enough to run over a small owls d, but rice has a good rb in charles ross and a wr in jordan taylor that will be playing on sundays. i think 7 is too much. rice.
