Tim Walton claims he didn't sandbag against Ole Miss: www.seccountry.com/florida/sec-softball-tournament-florida-tim-waltonSorry, but Tim Walton sandbagged the game. It wasn't pitching Delanie Gourley as she pitched well enough to win without the error that led to both Ole Miss runs in the first inning, both unearned. It was the message in coaching actions like these: 1. Moved Aleshia Ocasio to 3rd base after she had played right field as the starter for most of the season. This put our better fielder and starting 3rd baseman on the bench. It was Ocasio who committed the error that led to the 2 unearned runs. She simply didn't field her position. She should have been in right field where she belonged. 2. The girl that started in right field, Chelsie Herndon, is a senior who played DP, just hitting, most of the season. She misplayed a hit in the first inning that allowed the ball to roll to the fence rather than cutting the ball off properly. Ole Miss would have scored 1 run if Ocasio had been in right field, but not 2. All it took was for 1 and 2 to happen to put UF in the loss column, but that wasn't all. 3. The line up was juggled with our starting 3rd baseman out, Kvistad moved up to the 2 slot, and DeWitt moved from 2 to 3. It's not that these girls can't handle the changes, but they didn't yesterday and they shouldn't have been asked to. These changes weren't necessary. JMHO, Walton sent a coaching message to the team that maybe the best wasn't expected or winning the SEC tourney wasn't important. I'd say that's sandbagging. Walton did the same thing in the third game at UT when he went with Ocasio in game three. Most of Ocasio's starts this season had come in mid-week games yet he put Ocasio on the mound against one of the hottest hitting teams in the nation. Walton's intention could have only been more clear had he started true freshman Katie Chronister. It wasn't a big game as UF had won the SEC championship so Walton went with less than the best he had available. It turned out to be a move that shot him in the foot as Barnhill picked up her first loss of the season in a 3-1 defeat in Tallahassee against #2 FSU. I don't want to see Walton saying this is the way the team has played all season. I've watched enough games to know that is not true. What is true is that Walton coached game 3 at UT and game 1 in the SEC tourney as if they were throw away games. The team responded to his coaching.

Lack of timely hitting and 2 errors by Kelly Barnhill who couldn't defend her position tonight has the Gators on the brink of elimination for a second consecutive before reaching the CWS. UF got 3 hits, but 2 were by Amanda Lorenz who also got 2 walks. The rest of the team didn't do squat offensively. Bottom line, if you don't score you can't win:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – No. 16 seed Alabama put up three runs in the fifth on a pair of Florida errors to down the top-seeded Gators, 3-0, in the first game of the best-of-three Gainesville Super Regional on Thursday evening in front of 1,800 softball fans at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
Junior Alexis Osorio threw a three-hit shutout for the Crimson Tide (46-16) to improve to 23-7 on the season in the circle. Offensively for the Gators (53-8), sophomore Amanda Lorenz went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks.
Sophomore righty Kelly Barnhill (23-3) worked the first five innings and allowed three runs (all unearned), while junior Aleshia Ocasio tossed pair of scoreless frames for the Gators in relief of Barnhill.

NCAA SUPER REGIONAL GAME 2 FLORIDA 2, ALABAMA 0
WHAT HAPPENED: Amanda Lorenz hit a two-run homer in the third inning and that was all senior Delanie Gourley needed to extend top-seeded Florida's season in Game 2 of the Gators' NCAA Super Regional series against Southeastern Conference rival and No. 16 Alabama before a raucous crowd at Seashole Pressly Stadium. The victory forced a decisive Game 3 Saturday that will send the winner to the Women's College World Series next week in Oklahoma City. Lorenz's homer provided the first runs of the series for UF and left the rest to Gourley, the gritty left-hander who excels on the biggest of stages. Gourley scattered four hits, struck out eight and lowered her season's ERA to 0.68 in throwing her third shutout in as many appearances in this NCAA Tournament.
PLAY OF THE GAME: The homer by Lorenz completely changed the atmosphere of the offense-starved UF home crowd. The energy jolt was noticeable and the Gators, not surprisingly, fed off it as the game went on and Gourley did her thing. And while the homer proved the difference, it doesn't happen without the play before she stepped up and smacked the big fly. UF's No. 9 hitter, speedy Justine McLean, came to the plate with two out and faced two strikes when she reached first base -- with those wheels of hers -- on a swinging bunt. That allowed the Florida lineup to turn over, bringing Lorenz, the leadoff batter, to the plate. Boom.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Gourley, once again, was magnificent in the clutch. Just like she did in the decisive regional Game 3 against Oklahoma State, and just like she did in those back-to-back World Series of 2014 and '15, Gourley got the ball in a pressure-packed situation. All she did was utterly shutdown the Crimson Tide -- and win. Her best work? In the Alabama sixth, Gourley walked leadoff batter Bailey Hemphill and fell behind the next, clean-up hitter Marisa Runyon representing the tying run, 3-0, only to work the count full and get Runyon to pop out to short. The next two hitters -- Reagan Dykes and Sydney Booker -- popped out as well. Gourley improved her record to 21-4 on the season.

UF beat bama 2-1 behind Kelly Barnhill to advance to the CWS against the winner of the Texas A&M at Tennessee regional to be played on Thursday at 12:00 PM ET:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The University of Florida softball team earned its eighth berth to the Women's College World Series on Saturday after winning the final game of its best-of-three NCAA Super Regional against Alabama. UF finished off the series with a 2-1 win over UA in front of a charged-up crowd (2,216) at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
Sophomore Amanda Lorenz paced the Gators (55-8) all weekend as she went 5-for-8 (.625) with two runs scored, two RBI, one home run and three walks.
The Moorpark, Calif., native wasted no time on Saturday as she led off the Florida half of the first inning with a single to left.
After Kayli Kvistad walked to move Lorenz over to second, Aleshia Ocasio recorded an RBI single up the middle. The Gators were able to scratch one more run across after Janell Wheaton was walked to load the bases and freshman Jordan Roberts was hit by a pitch.
Undaunted, Alabama (47-17) bounced back in the top of the second and cut the Gators lead to 2-1 via a two-out triple from Rachel Bobo and an RBI single by Elissa Brown.
Pitching and defense ruled the remainder of the game, as sophomore Kelly Barnhill (24-3) retired 16 of the final 17 hitters she faced. For the game, Barnhill allowed just two hits, one run (earned) and one walk, while striking out 12 Crimson Tide hitters.
Barnhill's counterpart, Alexis Osorio, was just as impressive after the first inning as she retired 15 of the following 19 Gators she faced. In addition, Florida did not have a baserunner in scoring position following the first inning.
For the game, Osorio allowed just three hits, two runs (both earned) and recorded eight strikeouts.
Florida will open play Thursday at the WCWS at noon ET against either Tennessee or Texas A&M. Check FloridaGators.com for broadcast information and more information.

Thanks for knocking out that low class Auburn team. I can't stand Clint Myers and his son, two of AU's graduate assistant coaches who were once as players booted from the UF program due to being cancerous trouble makers, and I especially can't stand Haley Fagan who caused a scene in Gainesville when she shoved Tim Walton in the back and caused a verbal scene that went national. It would be an honor for UF to face and beat OU. Go Gators!

Yes, that would be great for OU to face UF. With the proper result, of course. UF and OU are in opposite brackets so this will only happen if both make it to the best of 3 final series.
