Dylan Raiola, former Ohio State commit, and current Georgia commit, is considering Nebraska for his third commitment in as many years. Raiola played at three different high schools in three different states, so this third commitment will fit in nicely as his third college commitment. Raiola had a great senior year at Buford High School in Buford, Ga., but failed to move far in the state playoffs. Rumor is that he recently asked Georgia HC Kirby Smart to tell QB Carson Beck to commit to the NFL draft and to name him the starting QB in his freshman season. Smart told Raiola that whoever won the spring competition would be considered the frontrunner to be starter after fall camp, and it appears Beck will be back for a final year at Georgia. Raiola's daddy, former Nebraska and NFL center Dominic Raiola, has moved his family around the country to prep his son for college football. So, another move may be in the very near future.bleacherreport.com/articles/10100897-5-star-qb-recruit-dylan-raiola-to-visit-nebraska-despite-georgia-commitment

Whatever happened to the days when you gave someone your word and stood by it? I don't know who this kid is but to me this is a prime example of what is wrong with some of America's youth. This sounds like the kid's father had something to do with it, but my father taught me that if I game my word to someone, I stood by it. I am a late comer when addressing the NIL deal; college kids should be compensated for someone profiting off of their name, but the amount some are paid is ridiculous compared to some who don't have a 4 or 5 star name but put in the same effort each and every game. Whoever heard of a college football player driving a Rolls Royce! The transfer portal is a joke. If the NCAA is going to allow it, limit it to a one-time deal. We all know the NCAA is the farm system for the NFL, but the majority of the college players never make it to the pros. The so-called "hardship clause" that many players claimed a few years ago no longer holds water. One last thing while I am venting a bit, I am sick and tired of seeing college football players opt out of playing in their respective bowl games. Their commitment to their respective fans, university or college is nil and I for one hold no respect for any player who chooses to not play.

Amen, Doc. It's all about self-promotion nowadays.
That's why I admire J.J. McCarthy for sharing his NIL revenue with his teammates.

Amen, Doc. It's all about self-promotion nowadays. That's why I admire J.J. McCarthy for sharing his NIL revenue with his teammates. Two things. 1. Entering the TP is not going back on a deal. Most all athletic scholies are one year deals. So unless the school anties up a 4 year deal, the kid is a free agent. 2. NIL is not technically the school's business though the infrastructure certainly plays a part. I too like to see players share their wealth. After all, without an Oline, a QB's NIL value goes down considerably.

Their commitment to their respective fans, university or college is nil and I for one hold no respect for any player who chooses to not play. What about a head coach that gives his word, via a signed contract, to stay with a school and his players for X years, then jumps to another school for more money? Players commit to a coach and his staff, yet the coaches can leave and the players are bound to the school? No, the schools and coaches greed is what led to the current NIL mess. The worst example of the disdain coaches and schools have for the student athletes is the Colorado mess. Deion Sanders came in and told the Colorado players, who were excited to have him come in, that he was bringing in players in bunches and they should look for other schools to play for. He even told the QBs that Shedeur would be the starting QB and their job was to make him better. No chance for them to earn playing time. The AD and administration should have stepped in for the student athletes that had committed to Colorado but they did nothing.

FWIW, That has changed a lot in the past 10 years. P5 conferences, for the most part, give 4-year scholarships. Thanks. Did not know that. That said....scholarship players do get "processed." Which is a catch-all word for letting a player know that he will only be seeing the field somewhere else. Even then, the player should give it hard thought....less than 50% end up at another D1 school. In theory, a player can't explore another school without entering the TP, and voluntarily revoke their existing scholarship. In practice, however, players from other schools let those about to enter the TP know what the interest is those other schools. Coaches can't contact players not in the portal, but, players can. That's the mile wide loophole. And there are some that enter the TP because of the bag....i.e., NIL money. OU had one of those just the other day. Some of those end up in bidding wars that you never, or rarely, hear about. Finally, there are those cases where it's a fresh start, need to be closer to home, hardship, etc. IOW, the original intent of the portal.

I see the kid finally decided on Nebraska. I know his old man played at Nebraska back when Nebraska was relevant. IMO, things like this put a severe tarnish on college football. Those Nebraska football donors with the deep pockets will do anything and everything in their effort to beat the Iowa Hawkeyes.
