Geez...and to think I felt a tinge of regret upon hearing that A Beltre was sent to Cooperstown yesterday, and the Dodgers let him go over the length of a multi-year contract extension...

I think Belichick's first NFL coaching job was with the late, great Denver Broncos' Defensive Coordinator, Joe Collier.
Collier was one of the pioneers of the 3-4 defensive schema, which he used in the late 70s with Randy Gradishar, Tom Jackson, Lyle Alzado, and Denver's "Orange Crush" defense.
The national sports media goons, and Canton voters, were typically clueless about those Denver guys.

Geez...and to think I felt a tinge of regret upon hearing that A Beltre was sent to Cooperstown yesterday, and the Dodgers let him go over the length of a multi-year contract extension... Imagine you are conducting interviews to replace your FB HC and having Bo Schembechler as a candidate, who REALLY wanted the Wisky HC job. Schembechler was a candidate vying to succeed Milt Bruhn as head coach at Wisconsin in 1967. Immediately after a 40-minute interview, in which he was offended that the hiring committee didn't take his candidacy seriously, (Apparently there were several people in attendance from the committee sleeping in their chairs at that late hour) he contacted athletic director Ivy Williamson to withdraw his name from consideration.
But it didn't stop there. His negative experience was a major factor in his convincing Bob Knight to reject Wisconsin's offer to become men's basketball head coach in 1968.
For almost the next 25 yrs in FB and the next 31 years in BB, they absolutely sucked in both sports.

So should Tom Jackson-- another Cleveland native.

From the friends I knew who attended Wisky in the 70s, nobody noticed who won the games anyway. TDs were a nuisance that just interrupted the party.
