Mark, your stud date is December 6. The bowl/playoff contest is separate. We'll all start at zero again.

The only horse races I've enjoyed as much as watching Secretariat were the three close races between Affirmed and Alydar. It was like watching Ali vs. Frazier.

another incredible series of races. here's the '78 belmont. the last triple crown winner.



alydar lost all 3 races to affirmed, by less than a length, total. unbelievable.

All three races were like that. It was amazing to watch. Alydar had some success against Affirmed in the other races, but Affirmed took the triple crown.

BTW, for the first time ever, I went to see the quarter-horses run at Los Al.
Holy crap, those horses are fast.
300 yards in 15 seconds from a standing start with a human on your back. Incredible.

It was like going to the equine drag races.

there were only 6 horses in the race, so going wide early wasn't as bad in the belmont as it might have been for the derby, where if i recall secretariat was near last if i recall because he stayed closer to the rail til the backstretch.
