THURSDAY NIGHT:
Arizona -7 at UT San Antonio. these 2 played last yr, and ua won big on the scoreboard (38-13) but the stats were actually close to even. mix in the thursday night home dog factor recently, and i think the roadrunners are fast enough to hang around. utsa
FRIDAY NIGHT:
Pitt -4 at Boston College. 1st time they've played since '04 when both were in the big east. when in doubt, take the points. bc
SATURDAY'S ENJOYMENT:
Navy -3 at Temple. serious let down danger for the middies, after selling out last week vs osu. i think this walker kid playing qb for the owls is the real deal. temple.
Southern California +2 1/2 at Stanford. toughest call in this week's games imho. cardinal has revenge after throwing away the game w/some late picks at the coliseum. plus su plays the physical brand of ball sc used to play. til the trojans prove to me they can fight on consistently... stanford.
Michigan State +12 at Oregon. not only the most attractive game of the wknd, maybe the most important ooc game of the season in cfb, considering the potential final 4 ramifications for both teams/leagues. every team who plays a tough, mostly ball control offense (like stanford, lsu, auburn, tosu) has given the ducks fits, mostly by keeping their offense on the bench. but i watched the bucks burn sparty for 270+ ground yards last week, losing only because they stopped giving the ball to hyde. nearly 7 ypc. and i don't think this msu d is quite as good as '13. dantonio's boys don't want to play catch up and get down a couple scores and that will be uo's plan. i think it will work. barely. hope i'm wrong, but give me the team w/more outfits in their closets than elton john. oregon.
East Carolina +16 at South Carolina. no team had a more embarrassing high profile loss last week than usc-e. this looked like a trap game at the beginning of the season, between a&m and uga. now it's redemption saturday. (stat of the week alert) since the start of the '09 season, the gamecocks have only lost 4 games at home, counting the aggie drubbing. in the first 3 losses, they've won the next game by an average score of 41-9. south carolina.
Michigan +4 1/2 at Notre Dame. south bend and ann arbor are about 2 1/2 hrs apart. two of the traditional giants of cfb. so it's only natural that our lady of nd end this great series in favor of the likes of nc state. just the latest reason why i wouldn't mind lake michigan flooding the golden dome. this had been a dog series for most of the last 15 years til chalk covered/won the last 2. after last year's game, anyone remember what happened? um won 41-30, and in reference to hoke saying the irish were chickening out on the rivalry, the stadium loudspeakers played the chicken dance song. nice. but i think kelly's memory, plus having golston back at qb, is a good combo. pray for me. i'm taking nd.
BYU +1 at Texas. last year byu ran the ball for 550 yards in burying the horns. 550! and i thought navy getting 370 on osu was bad. at least the bucks won. still a little concerned about ash's health, but byu had to fly coast to coast to play uconn saturday, and now another long road trip. plus, here are the point totals for the cougars in game on the road vs bcs conference opponents, in reverse order, since '04; 13, 17, 16, 14, 21 (all losses), 38 (at oregon st, a win), 16, 14, 10, 17, 17, 23, 13, 23, 10 (all losses). and yet this is a virtual pick 'em??? i really like texas.
Virginia Tech +11 at Ohio State. bucks struggled for a while in night games, although they're 4-1 the last 5 at home under the lights. liked the way osu finished off navy in the 4th, but va tech won't wear down as easy. both young qb's (barrett, brewer) played decent in their first starts last week. i really think foster will have his d ready and confuse our green o-line, at least for a while toughest game to call this week for me... osu has the talent edge everywhere but the db's, but i still see the gobblers finding a way to stay within reach. va tech.
And last but not least...
Colorado State +11 at Boise State. scoreboard said ol' miss blew out bsu, but in reality the broncos played much tougher. csu is off an emotional rivalry win over the buffs. stat of the week alert #2... boise is 9-0 ats after giving up 35+ as a favorite of 15/less. this is a pretty low number for boise at home, too. they're 7-1 ats the last 10 yrs when giving 12 or less on the blue turf. i like those trends. boise state.

I don't know about Texas. Tyrone Swoopes will play at qb instead of David Ash (starting qb),who is recovering from a concussion. Word is Swoopes isn't any good, but we'll see. I knew that about Ash and took Texas anyway. Charlie Strong is a defensive specialist along the lines of Bobby Stoops. If the cougs can't score enough points, they can't win. I'm betting on Strong having the defense fired up and getting enough out of the offense to win in front of the home crowd. It'll be close, but no cigars for BYU. You would start at 0-10 for having missed last week, but you should participate anyway. The leaders are sitting at 7-3 (+4) so the lead isn't insurmountable. Well, I'll try. Let's see Arizona Pitt Navy Stanford Oregon South Carolina Notre Dame BYU VTech Boise State

Our little game is up to 19 players. The winner is going to have plenty of bragging rights. We've got enough football regulars to get this up to 25 or so. It's too bad they choose not to participate. I've found myself watching games that I wouldn't normally care about just because I have a rooting interest through this contest. It makes the season funner.

I have always been a bit of a CFB junkie but now with a rooting interest in more games, I find myself switching bavk and forth between games more. Or flipping over to ESPN to catch the score updates on the bottom line. Maybe some day I will take it a step further and put some money on the line for these games. You know, for entertainment purposes only, of course.
