UF dropped out, but is the next top vote getter. Some teams that played somebody came onboard, but so did Miami who beat FCS FAMU 70-3. It doesn't matter in the long run except I hate to see the candy canes rewarded at UF's expense for blowing out an FCS team.

Georgia jumped way too high. I think maybe 12th instead of 9th. Miami jumping Florida is wrong too.

Oh, so that means your AD will schedule your FCS opponent earlier next year? the polls have always been fascinating to me. this early in the season, do you rate teams based on how strong you think they'll be over the course of the season? or base it on who they've beaten to this point? uw beat #5 lsu. they got from nowhere to 10th, a huge jump. is that about right? to me, the top of the list basically are based on where you think they'll finish. otherwise clemson would not stick at #2 based on how they played at auburn. the rest of the poll, i'd say from #7 down, are more a 'what have you done lately' specific ranking. tennessee dropped as far for beating appalachian state as the rebs did for losing to florida state and nd did for losing at unranked texas.

first exchange: et - Just curious, why did you watch Miami over Nebraska and LSU over Oklahoma? Nobody knew who was going to win those games and neither Nebraska nor Oklahoma won the Big 12, both losing in the Big 12 CG. They lost their last game of the season before the last BCS ranking yet played for the national championship. It appears to me that your protest is about bama winning coupled with it being an all-SEC matchup that season. If the best two teams in the nation one day reside in the BIG, I hope you will be just as strong in your opposition. I don't believe you will, but that is my hope for you. Dale -Can't and won't attempt to speak for Mark; but (as I've never watched the Mulligan Bowl either), neither of your two examples was a do-over on top of the other stuff that common people bitched about. LSWho beat Bama IN THIER HOUSE, and Bama's win was at a neutral site. Seems to me that losing at home should count as extra strikes against. If you'd go back to late 2006, you'll see just about EVERY Buckeye saying that Missed Again should not get a second chance...how fortunate for you that the writers/BSPiN talking heads agreed... Read more: aolcfboutcasts.proboards.com/thread/12143/college-football-rankings#ixzz4HiWj6SXt2nd : CB - So if a similar situation had happened to Osu where they didn't win their conference (division) and they made the NCG anyway, you wouldn't watch the game? et - Watch the game? He'd pay whatever it takes to be there. You have to understand the bucknut mindset. The bucknuts deserve favoritism payed for with large numbers of traveling fans and a good historical all-time record. Nobody else deserves it, just The Ohio State University.
Read more: aolcfboutcasts.proboards.com/thread/12143/college-football-rankings#ixzz4HiX9TG8BPretty obvious who took the first shot, isn't it?
and then you come back with: It's was all about the best two teams regardless of the mulligan. Oklahoma State lost at home late to a bad team. It's not like there was a real good alternative. The bucknuts lost by double digits to sub .500 Virginia Tech. Losing at home didn't carry extra strikes against tOSU in the 14 national championship run. Just ask TCU and Baylor. What's fair for the goose is never fair for the gander. tOSU can't be heaped with enough preferential treatment. UF won the SEC and didn't lose the last game of the season. Michigan is the only team I've ever seen to lose and not drop in the polls. First they dropped behind USC. Thanks to UCLA upsetting the trojans, UF got the chance to be disrespected for 5 weeks before destroying the bucknuts. However, be honest, Lloyd Carr and the BIG was rooting for, lobbying for, a tOSU/UM rematch and would have taken it if offered. BSPN was lobbying for it too. The network was openly rooting for a rematch. UF's SECCG win earned enough points for UF to pass Michigan. The BCS system worked while all others were trying to keep it from working. All I see here is hypocrisy in believing what is okay for one team, Ohio State, or one conference, the BIG, isn't okay for anyone else.

By Pat Dooley Sun sports columnist
Published: Monday, August 15, 2016
The hype train is coming. To your citaaayy. It’s carrying a load of manure and is fueled by empty promises. Gosh, The Associated Press poll comes out Sunday and we’ll freak out over it even though the media boys haven’t picked the No. 1 team correctly since 2004. All summer we have heard the praises of teams based on two things — how many starters are back and what was the last impression of last season. The first matters, the second does not. Teams get hyped, then collapse in a pile of broken garbage bags. I’m not saying these teams should be thrown out with the egg shells and banana peels, but The Back Nine thinks these are the most over-hyped teams of the summer.
• Washington: Man, the Huskies are getting a lot of summer lovin’. You do know they lost six games last year, right?
• Michigan: Forget that bowl clubbing of Florida. It has nothing to do with this year. And the hype is only going to get louder when the Wolverines start 7-0. But look at the back end of the schedule.
• Louisville: I think a lot of media types have talked themselves into this based on Bobby Petrino’s coaching and a favorable schedule. The Cards will be good, but not great.
• LSU: If I had a dollar for every person who has the Tigers in the College Football Playoff, well, I’d still be on vacation. Treon Harris picked this defense apart. That’s all you need to know.
• Notre Dame: Because it’s Notre Dame.
Nope, I did not put the Kardashians on this list because I think they are going to be really good and everything I’m hearing out of their camp appears to be grounded. Tennessee’s whole season is a four-game stretch from Sept. 24 to Oct. 15 when it plays Florida, at Georgia, at Texas A&M and Alabama. The rest of the schedule is just window dressing. Go 4-0 and you’ll probably be in the College Football Playoff. Go 3-1 and you win the East. Go 1-3 and, well, go 1-3 because that would be fun to watch.
I don't always agree with Pat, but he's a good read.
interesting question. can the previous season foreshadow a title the next year?
'15 champ alabama. '14 record... 12-2 '14 champ ohio st '13 record... 12-2 '13 champ florida st '12 record... 12-2 (i sense a trend here) '12 champ alabama '11 record... 12-1 '11 champ alabama '10 record... 10-3 (since the tide won neither the sec nor their division this year, i tend to discount this severely.) '10 champ auburn '09 record... 8-5 (hmm) '09 champ alabama '08 record... 12-2 '08 champ florida '07 record... 9-4 (maybe mr dooley just forgets that uf struggled the season prior to this title) '07 champ lsu '06 record... 11-2 '06 champ florida '05 record... 9-3 '05 champ texas '04 record... 11-1 '04 champ usc '03 record... 12-1 '03 champ lsu '02 record... 8-5 (hmm again) '02 champ ohio st '01 record... 7-5 (hmmm) '01 champ miami fl '00 record... 11-1 '00 champ oklahoma '99 record... 7-5 (hmmm) '99 champ florida st '98 record... 11-2 '98 champ tennessee '97 record... 11-2
so, since the advent of the bcs era and thru the cfb playoffs, we've had 18 winners, and 7 of them, nearly 40%, lost 3 or more games the season prior. only 4 lost 1 game or less the previous year. obviously the factors are exponential in terms of what determines the team that ends up on top, but you can pretty plainly see that it's not always the best from the year before that end up improving.
and i have to admit that seeing dooley claim that treon harris 'picked apart' lsu's defense last year made me laugh. yes, he did throw for 270 yards, but 1. he barely completed half of his throws (17-32), 2. from early in the 2nd qtr on, uf was either behind or tied, so passing was more necessary, mainly because... 3. the gators could not run on lsu. they had just 50 yards on the ground.

The UF running game did suffer at LSU. Some of it was netting 5 sacks for 35 yards in losses because Treon Harris didn't get the ball out fast enough. He drove me crazy keeping the OL in stance waiting down to 2 or 3 seconds to call for the ball and then didn't get the ball out on time. Still, Pat Dooley was right that at LSU was Harris' best game. He was much worse as the season and competition progressed. It was probably timing more than the LSU D. Will Grier was suspended the Monday after practice before LSU so they had been preparing for Grier, but got Harris. Everybody else had good game tape to go on in shutting Harris down. It wasn't hard to do.

again, i'm shocked. lol. alabama was obviously good in '11 but they had no business being in that game. which is why, of all those games listed above, that is the one that i neither watched on tv nor in person.

Ha, just like the year y'all played Oregon, I watched Finding Bigfoot instead of the NC game.

Just curious, why did you watch Miami over Nebraska and LSU over Oklahoma? Nobody knew who was going to win those games and neither Nebraska nor Oklahoma won the Big 12, both losing in the Big 12 CG. They lost their last game of the season before the last BCS ranking yet played for the national championship. It appears to me that your protest is about bama winning coupled with it being an all-SEC matchup that season. If the best two teams in the nation one day reside in the BIG, I hope you will be just as strong in your opposition. I don't believe you will, but that is my hope for you.

Here we are again...something there wasn't adding up in my mind. If you go back to the beginning of this, you said it started at 10:24, with a post by Mark. There WERE no posts by Mark at 10:24. There was a post at 8:24...did you change something? Are you making up things again? Go back to page 2 and try again...

dale, were you born an asshole or did you develop into an asshole over time? As I've told a few people here...Look in a mirror. I treat people the way they reflect towards me... When you look into that mirror, where does the little browneye appear?
