With my writing and my business I have not been able to post here much, but this year I created a brand new pie for Thanksgiving I wanted to share with you guys. My taste-testers absolutely raved about it. It's lighter in texture than a regular pumpkin pie. It's a fairly long tutorial because it comes in three parts. Follow the link to my foodie page on Facebook for the whole thing. Pumpkin Mousse Pie with Cinnamon Whipped Cream and Candied Pecans. www.facebook.com/robb.mclaren.3

Yeah...that one's a contender. I've been making a pie each week as I perfected it and here it is a week before Thanksgiving and people are asking me to make more pumpkin pies!

Wow. Looks great.
Robb, do you have fresh pecans in Virginia?
The reason I ask is that I have always loved pecan pie, but the fresh pecans my in-laws have sent us from Texas are absolutely TO DIE FOR-- much better than the stale pecans we used to buy in the stores here in Denver when I was growing up.

I usually use Young's pecans from South Carolina. Virginia is on the edge of the subtropical zone and the only pecan trees which provide many nuts are found in the Tidewater region....but there are no commercial producers here that I know of.

Looked it up. Georgia is the largest producer of pecans in the US, followed....(who woulda guessed this?) by New Mexico and then Texas. Those 3 states account for about 3/4 of the crop.

About the only thing that grows up here is buffalo grass and (indoor) marijuana...

Not sure where Oklahoma ranks, but it used to be a pretty important crop down there. There were pecan groves near my hometown and we used to go pick them. But, Oklahoma's winters seem a little more severe than they used to be, so I would imagine production is down. It's that global warming thing again.

Made this pie for turkey day. Actually made 2. Big hit and unbelievably good. 2 pies, 12 people, and barely got a couple pieces to take home. Hats off to the Czar of Pies.
