RIP Ernie. He was a hell of a nice man....he was exactly what he appeared to be. Nothing phony about him at all. What you saw was what you got whether in public or private. He was a very smart guy....a shrewd investor too, which many people never knew He will be sorely missed here in Chicago.

83 seems like too soon to go in his case. An icon who will always be remembered. Hard to believe he never played in a post season game. He had a 19 year career where the Cubs finished below .500 in all but 6 seasons.

First time I ever saw wrigley field on tv (who did play by play then before Harry carry... Brickhouse?) Ernie hit a hr. I didn't know him from Adam but my grandpa always thought he was the model baseball player. Very sorry to see that news when we got home. A true legend.
