#1 Florida (27-0) vs. #2/#3T LSU (25-0) in Gainesville. The Saturday and Sunday games will be televised by the SEC Network at 1 PM EST and 12 PM EST.
Meet the tigers - they are scary good:
Overall: 25 - 0
SEC: 3 - 0
Home: 20 - 0
Away: 0 - 0
Neutral: 5 - 0
Notes on the Tigers
LSU is 25-0 on the season and 3-0 in the SEC after earning wins over Northwestern State and Arkansas last week. LSU is on the longest winning streak in program history, surpassing the 2010 team which won that many midway through that season. This is the best start for any team at LSU, as the Tigers are one win shy of tying the longest winning streak in department history which is 26. The Tigers have outscored their last six opponents 63-2. LSU is outhitting those same opponents 73-14. LSU has scored six or more runs in a game 21 times so far this season. The Tigers have only been outhit by an opponent three times this season. The most runs LSU has given up this season so far was five to Louisiana Tech, while shutting out 12 opponents. The team is outscoring opponents 54-4 in the first inning and 31-3 in the second. LSU took a 27-inning shutout streak into this past weekend. On the season the team is outscoring opponents 199-28. LSU is 22-0 when leading after four innings this year. Of the LSU pitching staff’s 25 wins, 20 have been complete game efforts. Opposing teams are hitting just .188 against Tiger pitching, combining for a 0.86 earned run average. LSU outscored Northwestern State and Arkansas 34-1, while outhitting the two 35-10. OF their 35 hits, 12 were for extra bases, with 31 of the 34 accounted for as RBIs. The Tigers hit .389 as a group while the Razorbacks and Lady Demons hit just .118. No team had a hit for extra bases against LSU, as no team in the last six has earned more than four hits against the staff. 17 times this year LSU has held an opposing team to four hits or less in a contest. The 10 runs against Arkansas in the SEC series opener was the second most scored by LSU in an SEC home opener, as it was also just the second time LSU has run-ruled an opponent in that initial conference home game. This is the first sweep of an SEC series opponent since doing so against Ole Miss last season, while it is the first in the very first weekend of league play since sweeping South Carolina in 2010. The sweep was the second time since 2008 that LSU has swept its opening league weekend opponent since doing so against Georgia. Bianka Bell hit .778 last week, slugging 1.667 with an .857 on-base percentage. Bell became the all-time career home run leader on Saturday, hitting the 34th of her career. Bailey Landry led all players in hits with eight, hitting .615 with seven RBIs and five runs scored. Landry has hit safely in 17 consecutive games which is the longest in program history. Sahvanna Jaquish led all players with eight RBI’s in the week, driving two home runs including her second grand slam of the year and third for the team this season. There were four intentional walks dished out on the week, as Bell and Jaquish had all four. A.J. Andrews had two of the team’s four stolen bases on the week. Emily Griggs hit .571 as she produced four RBIs and five runs scored. Baylee Corbello threw the first no-hitter of the season against Northwestern State, as she struck out eight in five innings. She had a perfect game through 3.1 innings, as she has not given up a run in her last 14 innings, with an unearned run allowed in her last 21. Carley Hoover and Kelsee Selman tied for the team high in strikeouts with nine each, as Hoover had an opponent batting average of .111 and Selman with .148. Hoover gave up just two hits in her start, allowing one in the first and one in the fifth. Selman had her longest start of the year, pitching all seven innings with four hits and two walks allowed. Allie Walljasper earned her eighth win of the season, giving up just four hits with four strikeouts and a walk in her fourth shutout of the season.

Edit: Delanie Gourley gave up 4 runs through 4 innings to 3T Michigan last week in the Judi Garman Classic in California. Her era was down with Haeger and Ocasio before that shelling by the wolverines. Michigan must have felt pretty good leading 4-1 after 4 innings, but Ocasio came in to shutdown the wolverines and the Gators rallied for the 7-4 win with the win going to Ocasio.

T-3 LSU IN MARQUEE MATCHUP TO OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY The No. 1-ranked Gator Softball team (27-0) begins Southeastern Conference play when Florida hosts No. T-3 LSU. The series marks the first clash of top-five teams at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium since May 6-8, 2011, when the No. 4 Gators swept No. 3 Tennessee. Florida is in the midst of a challenging stretch of its schedule that spans from the last two weeks of nonconference action through the fi rst two weekends of league play. Since Feb. 25, the Gators have five wins over ranked teams (UCF, Oregon - twice, Michigan, Arizona) in 11 games. In addition, Florida’s first two conference opponents (LSU and Alabama) also are ranked. The clash with the Tigers marks the third straight week that UF will play a team ranked No. 2 in one of the two national polls. QUICK HITS ABOUT THE GATORS: The Gators have won their first 27 games by a combined margin of 212-28, including 12 shutouts and 10 mercy-rule victories. Kelsey Stewart leads Florida with 29 runs scored and three triples on the year; both figures are more than the totals posted by the Gators’ opponents (28 and two). Stewart (12) and Kirsti Merritt (nine) both have more stolen bases individually than the Gators have allowed as a team (five). Lauren Haeger (nine), Bailey Castro (seven), Taylore Fuller (six) and Merritt (six) all have as many or more home runs than the six that the UF pitching staff has allowed. UF hitters have struck out 101 times on the year; Each of the Gators’ three pitchers has 60+ strikeouts (Haeger - 85, Aleshia Ocasio - 80, Delanie Gourley - 66). Stewart has set the Gator records for career triples and stolen bases. (See notes on Page 6) Haeger has established a new UF mark for RBI. (See note on Page 6) The Arizona native is closing in on the school record for career home runs. (See note on Page 6) Merritt has tied the UF mark for hit-by-pitches in a season while setting a new standard for career HBPs. (See notes on Page 6) SETTING THE STAGE: LSU LSU Head Coach Beth Torina (née Dieter) will return to Gainesville, where she pitched for the Gators from 1997-2000 and was a member of the 1998 SEC championship team. • The Orlando native won 60 games during her career, which is tied for sixth on UF’s all-time victories list. Florida has won four of six meetings against the Tigers dating back to the 2012 season, when this year’s seniors were freshmen. The Orange and Blue took two of three games from the Tigers last season in Baton Rouge, La. • Fuller’s go-ahead grand slam when Florida was down to its final strike propelled the Gators to a 7-6 (8 innings) win in the series opener, while UF earned a 10-2 (5 innings) victory in the finale. Stewart and LSU freshman outfielder Emily Griggs both attended Maize High School in Wichita, Kan., and both played for Griggs’ father, Mark, in travel ball with the Wichita Mustangs. The Tiger roster includes two players from Florida (Bianka Bell - Tampa; A.J. Andrews - Oldsmar).

Game 1 to UF 4-3:
Score by Innings R H E ----------------------------------------- LSU................. 002 000 1 - 3 9 1 Florida............. 003 000 1 - 4 5 1 -----------------------------------------
Note: 2 outs, 2 runners LOB when the game ended.
LSU's Bianka Bell was 4 for 4 and scored a run:
Gainesville, Fla. – In a matchup of unbeaten squads, the No. 1-ranked University of Florida softball team defeated No. 3 LSU, 4-3, on Friday night in the first game of the Gators’ Southeastern Conference schedule. The teams scored in bunches as Florida answered the Tigers’ two-run third inning with three runs of its own and the Orange and Blue matched LSU’s one seventh-inning run to seal the win. Lauren Haeger (12-0) got the win for pitching the final frame in relief of Aleshia Ocasio.
LSU got on the board in the third inning when a pair of singles and a Florida throwing error led to two Tiger runs. The Gators (28-0, 1-0 SEC) loaded the bases with one out in the home half on a Kelsey Stewart single and two walks. Taylore Fuller was hit by a pitch to force in the infielder before Briana Little’s infield single scored Kirsti Merritt. An LSU throwing error on the play allowed Haegerto come home, giving the Orange and Blue a 3-2 lead.
Haeger replaced Ocasio in the circle for the seventh inning. A hit-by-pitch and a single gave the Tigers (25-1, 0-1 SEC) two baserunners before a clutch throw by Little on a single to left cut down the would-be tying run. LSU later evened the game at three on a bases-loaded walk with two outs.
Stewart led off the decisive home half with a single down the left-field line, advancing to second on Merritt’s sacrifice bunt. A wild pitch moved the junior to third before the Wichita, Kan., native scored the winning run on a passed ball to secure the series-opening victory for Florida.
STARS OF THE GAME •Briana Little: The senior beat out an RBI single on the infield in the third to tie the game at two, and the resulting errant throw allowed the go-ahead run to score. The Middleburg, Fla., native also made a key defensive play in the top of the seventh, throwing out a potential tying run from left at home plate. •Aleshia Ocasio: In her first Southeastern Conference start, the freshman right-hander allowed just two runs (one earned) on seven hits over six innings with three walks and seven strikeouts. •Kelsey Stewart: The 2014 All-American had two hits and also scored twice, including the winning run on the game’s final play.
NOTABLES •The Orange and Blue now have won 28 straight games to begin the season, extending their school record. •Six of the last seven UF-LSU games have been one-run contests. The Gators are 5-2 over that span, which dates back to 2012. •The contest was Florida’s sixth of the season to be decided in the last at-bat, and UF’s fourth walkoff win. •Florida now has won seven games this season in which the game-winning run scored on an error, wild pitch, passed ball or illegal pitch. •With her third-inning single, Stewart extended her hitting streak to 14 games dating back to Game 2 of a doubleheader on Feb. 22. The string ties a career high for the junior (also: March 1-18, 2014). •Stewart had her team-best tenth multi-hit game of the season. •The junior has scored multiple runs six times this year, including four of the last seven games. •Little now has four RBI in her last five games after she had none in the previous five following her record-setting nine-RBI game in Game 1 of the Feb. 22 twinbill. •Bailey Castro’s leadoff single in the second inning extended her hitting streak to five games since March 5, tying her career-best string (also: Feb. 8-14, 2014). •The senior also ran her career-best reached-base string to 21 games since Feb. 14. •Friday’s attendance of 1,865 marked the largest crowd at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium since March 21, 2014, when 2,036 fans witnessed a Florida-Alabama game.
WALTON’S WORDS On Florida’s perseverance to score the game-winning run in the seventh after LSU had tied the game: “The best word is ‘tested.’ When you’re put in those situations, how are you going to respond? I thought [LSU] did a great job responding to being down by one on the road in the SEC. We responded with one [after] being tied. We beat a really good team today. Nobody in our dugout overlooked that fact.”
On Ocasio’s performance in the circle during her first SEC start: “She pitched well. I told her the difference between her throwing a complete game today is the walks. When they got the fourth time through the lineup, it’s a really tough situation to put her through. Overall, she pitched a really nice game.”
On the atmosphere and the fan support for the Gators: “They came out, and everybody went home with a ‘W’ tonight. I feel great about the way our crowd responded. The first pitch of the game, they were in it. The last pitch of the game, they were in it. It was good to be back home and get on the [winning] side again.” – Florida Head Coach Tim Walton
FLORIDA PLAYER QUOTES
Senior OF Briana Little On her assist in the seventh inning that kept the score 3-2: "On that play I knew it was going to be a base hit, but I was coming up hard and I was going to get her out. But she was fast, I had to be on it."
On knowing if the throw was going to make it to home: "I just focus on making a good throw and doing it quickly. I just relied on my arm and made it get there."
On the advice Walton gave her before her third-inning single: "He just told me to stay in control and make sure I swing easy. Just make sure I relax and do what I do best."
Freshman UT Aleshia Ocasio On her mentality going into a matchup of top-three teams: "LSU is a great team. Obviously we were both undefeated before tonight, so I think we just went out there and played our game. We battled all seven innings and came up with the win, so I thought it was a great game."
On her performance tonight: "I didn't think I had my best stuff but I worked with what I had. My teammates were there behind me both offensively and defensively. I thought it was overall a good performance from the team."
Junior 2B Kelsey Stewart On her baserunning strategy in the bottom of the seventh: "It was ‘read and react.’ Coach just told me to be ready for the pitch, because [LSU pitcher Carley Hoover] is throwing wild today. I was just ready for it. I read it, and I reacted."
On her approach at the plate during her final at-bat: "Just before, Coach had talked to me. [He said] 'Alright Kels, let's go.' The next at-bat I was just really trying to get a strike and get the ball on the ground to get on for my team."
On her mindset going into the bottom of the seventh with the game tied: "I mean, it gave me a heart attack. I'm only 20, but I feel like I'm 40 right now!"
UP NEXT The Florida-LSU series continues Saturday at 1 p.m. EDT. The contest will be televised on the SEC Network with Thad Anderson and Michele Smith on the call. WGGG (1230-AM) will have the radio broadcast with Corey Brooks and Megan Bush as the announce team. In addition, a live stats link can be found on the schedule page on GatorZone.com.

Wowzer! What a series! LSU gives UF its first loss. Rubber game tomorrow at noon EST on the SEC Network. This from Gatorzone:
Score by Innings R H E ----------------------------------------- LSU................. 900 010 4 - 14 15 1 Florida............. 300 214 0 - 10 8 1 -----------------------------------------
Saturday March 14, 2015 No. 1 Florida Falls to No. 3 LSU, 14-10, to Set Up Decisive Game on Sunday
Gainesville, Fla. – The No. 1-ranked University of Florida softball team suffered its first loss of the 2015 season on Saturday, falling to No. 3 LSU by a score of 14-10 in the second game of the teams’ three-game series. Florida overcame a nine-run deficit to tie the game at 10 after six innings, sparked by an historic three-home-run performance by junior Taylore Fuller.
LSU (26-1, 4-1 Southeastern Conference) plated nine runs in the top of the first on seven hits. A two-out single in the home half by Lauren Haeger and a walk to Bailey Castro brought up Fuller, who opened the scoring for Florida (28-1, 1-1 SEC) with a three-run home run to right-center field and cut the deficit to 9-3.
Four straight hit batters forced in a run for Florida in fourth, and a bases-loaded single by Kelsey Stewart made the score 9-5. LSU responded with a single and a sacrifice bunt to put a runner at second in the top of the fifth. The runner scored on a single to right, raising the Tigers’ lead back to five.
Fuller led off the bottom of the fifth with her second homer, a solo shot to center that cut Florida’s deficit to 10-6. The momentum continued for the Orange and Blue in the sixth when walks by Kayli Kvistad and Kirsti Merritt and a single by Stewart set up the Trenton, Fla. native’s third home run of the day, a grand slam that tied the game at 10.
Three singles for the Tigers in the seventh set up a two-out grand slam that put LSU back in front at 14-10, producing the final margin.

STARS OF THE GAME •Taylore Fuller: The junior hit three home runs and drove in eight runs, leading the comeback from a 9-0 deficit to tie the game at 10 after six innings. •Kelsey Stewart: The infielder had her first three-hit game of the season (previous: May 16, 2014, vs. Florida A&M – NCAA Regional), and also scored and drove in a run.
NOTABLES •Florida had its season-opening win streak snapped at a school-record 28 games. •Fuller’s three home runs tied the single-game school record, set by Briana Little in Game 1 of a doubleheader vs. Mercer on Feb. 22. •The Trenton, Fla., native drove in eight runs, which is the second-most in a game in Florida history (Little, 9, Feb. 22 vs. Mercer – Game 1). •Fuller had her second multi-homer game of the season (also: Feb. 27 vs. Cal Poly). •All four of Fuller’s career hits against the Tigers are home runs, including a go-ahead grand slam when the Gators were down to their final strike in Baton Rouge, La., exactly one year ago today. •The junior utility player now has nine home runs and 34 RBI on the year, tying Haeger for the team lead in both categories. •Her 34 RBI for the season ties the career high she set last season. •Fuller recorded her second three-hit game of the 2015 campaign (also: Feb. 6 vs. Hampton). •Stewart’s triple to lead off the third inning was the 20th of her career, extending her school record. •Florida was hit by five pitches on the day – all of them in the fourth inning. •Saturday’s attendance of 1,943 set a season high for the second consecutive day. •Through two games, the Florida-LSU series has drawn 3,808 fans. •Both teams’ starting catchers on Saturday opened at third base in the first game of the series on Friday night.
WALTON’S WORDS On the resiliency displayed by both Florida and LSU: “[These are] two good teams. I thought that overall, we came out and put up a good fight. You can’t say anything else other than that. I thought we put up a really good fight.”
On Fuller’s three-homer game: “It was [against] a couple different pitchers – it wasn’t just one pitcher. She looked a little more comfortable [today] than what I saw in the past. She looked like she was settled into the box pretty well and had good balance. She found an elevated pitch that she could hit.”
On Sunday’s rubber game: “We’re going to have to do a better job playing defense and pitching. We have to go out there and give the team a chance tomorrow. Give LSU credit offensively. Overall, we’ve got to go out there and bring it and try to win the series. That’s our goal.” – Florida Head Coach Tim Walton
FLORIDA PLAYER QUOTES Junior UT Taylore Fuller On Saturday’s game: "That was an amazing game. You don't see many teams come back from 9-0 in the first inning. That just shows our fight. LSU's a great team obviously, we've just got to come back tomorrow and try our hardest and see who comes out on top."
On hitting three home runs in the contest: "I just went out with a simple approach. Kept it simple [and] try to put some runs on the board for my team. Iit just turns out that I hit home runs."
Junior 2B Kelsey Stewart On the game: "When you go down in the first inning, you have so many more innings to go. So there was never a part where I even thought we were going to lose. To me, that's a moral victory. I've never been on a team that's down nine and then comes back to tie the game."
On coming back from a 9-0 deficit: "We just scored 10 runs on the No. 2 team in the country. Bouncing back is just a mindset. We know we can score – it’s just a matter of pitching better, fielding better and hitting better."
UP NEXT The Florida-LSU series concludes Sunday at noon EDT. The contest will be televised on the SEC Network with Thad Anderson and Michele Smith on the call. WGGG (1230-AM) will have the radio broadcast with Corey Brooks and Megan Bush as the broadcast team. In addition, a live stats link can be found on the schedule page on GatorZone.com.

LSU took the weekend series with a 10-3 whipping of the Gators. LSU moved to 27-1 (5-1) while UF fell to 28-2 (1-2). It'll be a complete sham if the tigers aren't voted #1 when the poll is released on Tuesday. UF should be no worse than #2, but it doesn't help to lose an SEC series at home. LSU was the better team this weekend:

Gainesville, Fla. – The University of Florida softball team dropped a 10-3 decision on Sunday to Southeastern Conference rival LSU. Florida gained an early advantage on a three-run home run from Kirsti Merritt in the third inning, but the Tigers answered with 10 runs over the final three frames to win the game and take the three-game series.
