It looks like UF couldn't close out the win at #1 Cal. The same thing happened in the national semifinal last season against eventual national champion Vandy:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The No. 7-ranked University of Florida women's tennis team dropped their first dual match of the season against the No. 1-ranked California Golden Bears, 4-3 on Friday afternoon. The match came down to the third set of the last match with Cal edging out the Gators and escaping with the match victory.
The Orange and Blue grabbed the doubles point for the sixth time this season. No. 1 tandem and No. 7-ranked Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan defeated No. 6-ranked Manassee and Starr, 6-4. Josie Kuhlman and Belinda Woolcock clinched the doubles point for Florida with a 7-5 victory over Fabikova and Hauger.
In singles action, UF got points from Austin and Woolcock on Courts One and Two. Austin defeated Manasse, 6-3, 6-3 and Fabikova fell to Woolcock, 6-2, 6-0. Cal would bring the match to a tie at three-all with wins on three, four and six. The match would come down to Brianna Morgan and Olivia Hauger. Morgan and Hauger split the first two sets, but Morgan ultimately fell, 6-4 in the final set.
UF will have Saturday off before travelling to Stanford for their match against the Cardinals on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. ET.
Head Coach Roland Thornqvist On today's tough loss to Cal… "It was a really tough loss. A big credit goes to Cal though, who were able to dig themselves out of that hole. They had one foot out of the door and I was wondering for the backend of this one because we hadn't really been test as a team and whether that was going to impact our play at some point. I thought perhaps it did today, where it was the first time all year we were tested and we scoreboard watched there at the end. It looked like the outcome of the match was in doubt and that affected our play. That is something we are going to have to learn.
I have to be honest. It was a very impressive comeback for Cal to be able to come back and do that. It is difficult to do against this team. I thought we fought super hard, but we needed to more assertive to finish the match on several courts. Today was just not our day. I am going to make it my mission that we learn from this loss and that we become an even better team when we play again on Sunday."

UF lost at Stanford on Sunday with it coming down to a single point like at #1 Cal on Friday. The Gators just get over the last hump it takes to be the best in the nation. To be sure, UF is talented and these Gators will be an impact in the SEC and nationally:
PALO ALTO, Calif. - The No. 7 University of Florida women's tennis team had another match come down to the final court in the third set on Sunday afternoon at No. 16 Stanford. The Gators fell to their west coast opponent, 4-3 at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium in Palo Alto, Calif.
The Orange and Blue grabbed the doubles point for the seventh consecutive match this season with victories on court two and three. The No. 19-ranked tandem of Josie Kuhlman and Belinda Woolcock defeated Kimberly Yee and Carol Zhao, 6-2. By the same score, Anna Danilina and Brianna Morgan defeated the No. 41-ranked tandem of Hardebeck and Lampl to clinch the doubles point.
In singles action, five of the six matches would go to third sets. The first match completed was on court two with No. 24 Taylor Davidson dealing Woolcock her first dual match loss of the season, 7-6(5), 6-2. Danilina would push the score to 2-1 with a win on court six. Carol Zhao would defeat Brooke Austin on court one 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 to bring the match to two-all.
Stanford would pull ahead in the match with a victory on court three. Kourtney Keegan would fall to Carolina dDoc by way of a third set tiebreaker, 6-1, 1-6, 7-6(2). Morgan would finish off Lampl on court five, 7-5, 2-6, 6-0 to again bring the match to a tie at three-all.
On the final court, Kuhlman would take the first set, 6-4 and Hardebeck took the second, 3-6. The Gator sophomore fought off multiple match points, including coming back from down 40-love to bring the match to a tie at five. In the end, the Stanford senior pulled away from the Gator and took the third set, 7-5 and claimed the match for Stanford.
Up next, Florida returns home to the friendly confines of the Ring Tennis Complex to open up SEC play against Arkansas at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday evening.
Head Coach Roland Thornqvist On the match against Stanford today… "It is always a pleasure to play these guys. Not only are they talented, but they are really classy. I think these two teams bring out the best in one another. It is always a pleasure to compete. The rivalry has seemed to severely tilt towards the home team. This is a tough place to play and this was a tough weekend for us. Going down 4-3 to Cal on Friday, I thought we rebounded really well today. At one point, I think we were leading in all five three-setters. It was tough for us but we learned a lot this trip. I like our doubles play. Even the days we are not playing well, we find ways to win. We were one point away from winning again just like we were on Friday. This stings and we have to find a way to get over it and realize 'hey we are pretty good'. The two teams we played this weekend are two teams that are going to be vying for a national title and we took them to the brink on their home courts. So, when it is all said and done, yes, we have some work to do, but I think the Gators are pretty good and we are looking forward to getting back on the court again."

#7 UF gets 4-1 road win at #8 South Carolina:
COLUMBIA, S.C. - After rain in the area forced the contest indoors, the No. 7 University of Florida women's tennis team picked up another Top-10 SEC win on Saturday afternoon defeating No. 8 South Carolina, 4-1. Florida is now the only team in the SEC to be undefeated in conference play at 7-0.
After dropping the doubles point for only the second time this season, the Gators were all business in singles play. Junior Kourtney Keegan was the first off the court with a quick 6-2, 6-3 win on court four over Hadley Berg. Coming in, Berg was 14-0. Brooke Austin was next off the court with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over No. 67 Caroline Dailey. On court two, Belinda Woolcock pushed the Orange and Blue lead to 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ingrid Gamarra Martin.
In the end, it was sophomore Josie Kuhlman clinching another Top-10 victory for the Florida Gators. The Ponte Vedra native was able to begin her match after Keegan defeated Berg because of limited court space in the USC Field House. Kuhlman defeated Brigit Fallond, 6-2, 6-3 to seal the victory for the Gators.
Up next, Florida plays host to the LSU Tigers and the Texas A&M Aggies in Gators' regular season finale at the Ring Tennis Complex. LSU is up first on Thursday night at 5 p.m. followed by a Saturday contest at 1 p.m. with the Aggies. The match on April 1st will also be Senior Day for Brianna Morgan.
Head Coach Roland Thornqvist On the Gators' victory over a Top-10 opponent this afternoon… "We had a battle on the road at South Carolina. After we lost the doubles point for the second time this year, I really liked the way we responded. It was all business. There was no panic and we went out and won three first sets fairly quickly. I like where we are right now. We are really starting to show grit and toughness. We are starting to show that we are the team that can take the pain of physical rallies. It is the time of year now that we are starting to play outside in the heat and start playing tournament tennis where fitness and toughness is going to make a difference. I am really proud of these guys. They fought hard today against a great South Carolina team. We are looking to heading home and getting two matches at home next weekend and big senior day for our beloved Brianna." Final Results #7 Florida 4, #8 South Carolina 1

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The No. 6 University of Florida women's tennis team defeated the No. 15 LSU Tigers on Thursday night at Ring Tennis Complex. The Gators improved to 8-0 in SEC play and stand alone atop the SEC team standings.
The doubles point took a six-game comeback effort on court one from Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan. Down 3-love at the beginning of the match, the No. 5-ranked pairing was able to gain the match momentum and win six straight games to take the first doubles match. On court two, Josie Kuhlman and Belinda Woolcock clinched the doubles point for the Gators over Ryann Foster and Abby Owens, 6-4.
In singles action, the Orange and Blue were quick to get another team point from Keegan's 6-0, 6-3 win over Kuykendall on court four that took less than an hour. LSU would grab a point back with Abby Owen's defeat of Kuhlman on five.
Sophomore Anna Danilina pushed the Florida lead to 3-1 with a 6-3, 7-6(3) win on six over Ella Taylor. Fellow-sophomore No. 10 Austin would clinch the match for the Orange and Blue with a three-set 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 over No. 19 Joana Vale Costa.
With the match win, Florida improved to 13-2 in dual match play. The Gators' regular season home finale is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday against No. 25 Texas A&M.
Head Coach Roland Thornqvist On playing against tough SEC competition every week… "That is really important. We have nine teams in the Top-25 in the SEC and LSU is getting better every year. We knew that and we were ready for them, clearly. Our players were very determined and that mindset is really key. I think that is really going to help us later on and come post season time. We are getting tested every week. I thought in the beginning of the season, in January and February, we weren't getting tested every week and it hurt us. When we went on our California trip, we hadn't played a lot of tough sets, so we gave away points at crucial times. We are starting to clean that up as we continue to be tested. Last week it was South Carolina there and this week it was a tough LSU team. It is going to help this team get ready for the post season." #6 Florida 6, #15 LSU 1

UF advanced to the SEC tourney semifinal with a 4-0 win over LSU. The Gators play Auburn on Saturday:
BATON ROUGE, La. - The No. 3 University of Florida women's tennis team defeated the No. 20 LSU Tigers on Friday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the 2016 SEC Women's tennis tournament. The Gators advance to the semifinal round where they will compete against the Auburn Tigers.
In doubles play, the No.68-ranked tandem of Anna Danilina and Brianna Morgan cruised to a 6-2 win on three. No. 4-ranked Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan came back from down 3-love to win six straight games and clinch the doubles point for Florida.
Singles action saw Keegan win 6-1, 6-1 in dominating fashion on court three. Danilina was next off the court with a 6-4, 6-3 win on court five. Junior Spencer Liang would clinch the match for the Orange and Blue with a 6-4, 6-3 win on court six.
The Gators will play the Auburn Tigers on Saturday morning at 12 p.m. ET at the LSU Tennis Complex.
Head Coach Roland Thornqvist Thoughts on the match win… "We started out really well in doubles. I thought we were sharp in doubles. We were aggressive. We served well. We made all of our returns. We played well in all three spots. I really thought LSU was good, particularly in three of the first sets, they gave us some fits. As I told the team after, we did a fantastic job in those three matches were we lost the first set to immediately answer in the second. That really helped the three players who won their first sets continue their momentum and play with more freedom. None of our players who lost their first sets really went away. They were all in the fight the whole time and that is what you have to do during tournament time." Final Results #3 Florida 4, #20 LSU 0 Doubles-Order of Finish: 3, 1*1.#4 Austin/Keegan (UF) def.
