Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor, Leon Jacobs receive Big Ten weekly awards
Two more Wisconsin Badgers received Big Ten Conference honors this week.
Outside linebacker Leon Jacobs was named the conference’s defensive player of the week, while running back Jonathan Taylor captured his third freshman of the week honor.
Jacobs led the team in tackles (nine), along with reeling in a key fourth-quarter interception in Wisconsin’s 17–9 victory over Purdue on Saturday afternoon at Camp Randall Stadium. It’s the first career defensive player of the week honor for the redshirt senior, who has bounced around multiple positions before returning to outside linebacker.
Taylor accumulated 219 yards on 30 carries with a 67-yard touchdown run in the victory. It was the third 200-yard-plus game for the true freshman from Salem, N.J., who leads the conference in rushing and is third nationally with 164.3 yards per contest. His 10 rushing touchdowns rank him first in the Big Ten as well.
On the season, Taylor is just 14 yards away from 1,000. According to UW, if he reaches the mark in Saturday’s contest against Maryland, the 5’11, 214-pound tailback would match the FBS record for fewest games needed to reach 1,000 yards by a freshman (seven games).

“Financially, it‘s the biggest day I’ve ever had here,” he said, adding that it was “triple” what the bar’s normal income would be from a regular day. Only triple!!! I am sure the Badgers I know would drink more than 3 times any Mormon I know. Maybe the guy was not ringing up all the drinks! We have a winner. Taxes, what taxes? Two bars in Provo? Hell that's only two corners out of four where I was raised, w the other two being renovated. From the last fights? In college we went one bar where they frisked everyone at the door. If you didn't have a gun or a knife they gave you one, 'cause you'd likely need it before the night was over.

www.buckys5thquarter.com/2017/10/22/16516026/wisconsin-football-jonathan-taylor-highlights-record-1000-yardsWisconsin RB Jonathan Taylor makes history vs. MarylandMADISON — It took only seven games for true freshman Jonathan Taylor to etch his name into the record books among college football’s best. On his third carry in the first quarter of the Wisconsin Badgers’ 38-13 win over the Maryland Terrapins, Taylor went over the 1,000-rushing yard mark on the season, matching the FBS freshman record for the fewest games to reach that milestone. “At the moment in the game, I probably didn’t know when I got it,” Taylor said. “I mean I’m pretty sure I got it and then thought about it later, but I was just focused on the game and now probably think about it afterwards.” During his 22-carry, 126-yard performance on Saturday, Taylor joined the likes Emmitt Smith (Florida, 1987), Marshall Faulk (San Diego State, 1991), Adrian Peterson (Oklahoma, 2004), Jamario Thomas (North Texas, 2004), and Wisconsin’s P.J. Hill (2006) in achieving the accolade. “It’s definitely humbling to be mentioned with those guys,” Taylor said. “There will never be any tailbacks like those guys, they’re phenomenal. I just love it when things like that happen because then I can go and chop it up with my guys up front that do a lot of the heavy lifting, so that’s just a testimony to show how hard they’re working.” Additionally, only five rushers—Smith, Faulk, Peterson, Thomas, and now Taylor— reached the mark as first-year players. “Well, you’re proud of all that goes into it,” head coach Paul Chryst said. “We’ve got a lot more football to be played, and we’ve got to continue to get better. I think he’s a really good back. I think that’s part of the reason why ‘J.T.’ came here ... he wants to be a running back in the place where there’s been some good running backs, and we’ve got to help him continue to grow and become the best player he can be, and it takes everyone. It’s fun when you watch good running plays—every guy in it is part of it, and ‘J.T.’ knows it.” Saturday’s game was the fifth in Wisconsin’s 7–0 start to the season that Taylor has gone over 100 yards, but it did not come without a blemish. For the second consecutive game and third time this season, Taylor fumbled the ball away to Wisconsin’s opponent. This time, it was on the Badgers’ own five-yard line near the end of the first quarter, situating Maryland to potentially tie the game at 7–7. Fortunately for Wisconsin, its stout defense held the Terrapins to a 23-yard field goal off the foot of Henry Darmstadter. “I just feel like I need to work on just covering the ball up, fighting for extra yards,” Taylor said. “That’s one thing that you got to work when you’re back there fighting for extra yards, is to make sure you got the ball covered up while you’re fighting.” In the homecoming win, Taylor also secured his place in Wisconsin history as the fastest freshman to gain 1,000 rushing yards. His 130 carries broke current New England Patriots running back James White’s previous record of 138 in 2010. Taylor now sits behind only Melvin Gordon as the fastest player to 1,000 rushing yards in a season carry-wise, as the current Los Angeles Chargers running back accomplished the feat in 105 and 120 carries in 2013 and 2014, respectively. Left tackle Michael Deiter noted how hard the 5’11, 214-pound Taylor plays, and could see bigger things on the horizon. “He’s super-talented and all that, but the work he puts in is what makes him go,” Deiter said. “He breaks a lot of tackles, he’s just out-working guys. With his talent and his work ethic, he could be one of the best backs in the country. There’s nothing that really surprises me about him in what he’s doing. He’s just a hard worker.”

If they can't, well, best of luck to the Badgers the rest of the way.

Wisconsin 38, Iowa 14 - 10-0 for the first time in program history
Offense gave them 14. Defense held Iowa to 5 1st downs, 0-13 on third down, 66 total yrds, 26 rushes for 25 yds and 41 passing yds.
Those 66 yards were the third-fewest by a FBS team ranked in The Associated Press top 25 over the last 20 years.
What a difference a week makes for Iowa.
Oh and Jonathan Taylor finished the day with 157 yds. Through 10 games he has 1545 yrs, ave 7.0/.

Iowa looked like crap yesterday after the butt-stompin they put on the Bucknuts last week. If they are "assholes" what does that make the Buckeye's, "hemorrhoids?" I hope this game is indicative of what the Badgers truly are as a team and after they beat Michigan next and get to the Big10 CG, probably against OSU, they put an ass stompin on them too. No way can the committee keep them out the big picture then. Iowa's only offense yesterday was their defense.

ESPN College GameDay coming to Madison; Wisconsin-Michigan set for 11 a.m. CT
Well, this should provide some interesting timing next weekend for college football fans in Madison.
ESPN College GameDay announced it will return to Madison again for next Saturday’s match-up between the Wisconsin Badgers and Michigan Wolverines. The well-known college football pre-game show came into town last October when Wisconsin faced Ohio State and also ventured up to Green Bay when the Badgers faced LSU in the 2016 season opener.
Details for this year’s extravaganza have not yet been set, though last year the ESPN show took place on Bascom Hill with famous professional wrestler Ric Flair as the guest picker. Aaron Rodgers held that designation for the Lambeau Field show.
College GameDay ✔@collegegameday You ready, Madison?

Also on Saturday night, it was announced next week’s game against Michigan will not be a late-afternoon game, but rather an 11 a.m. CT start. It will be televised on FOX.
It should be interesting how this affects the crowds next weekend wanting to take in the popular show while also trying to make it to the early kickoff on time.
Poster Note: Students are notorious to arrive late for a Saturday 11:00 am game, as is the team. Damn, would like to have seen a night game for Meat.

Hawkeyes or Buckeyes? Badgers did what badgers do. Grind it out play by play. Both..........IOWA playing up to their ability for 1 game, going through the motions for most of the rest. Assholes. OSU playing down to their press clippings, and having zero focus going into the game. It was the rare occasion during that game that 2 or more OSU players were on the same page. Assholes

Wisconsin RB Jonathan Taylor, OLB Leon Jacobs receive weekly Big Ten awards
The Big Ten Conference announced its weekly players of the week on Monday, with two Wisconsin Badgers again earning honors for their performances over the weekend.
Outside linebacker Leon Jacobs was named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week and running back Jonathan Taylor is again the conference’s Freshman of the Week following Wisconsin’s win over Iowa on Saturday.
Jacobs shared the award with Iowa cornerback Josh Jackson after recording four tackles, one sack, and two fumble recoveries in the 38–14 win over the Hawkeyes. One of those fumble recoveries included a 21-yard scoop-and-score to give UW a 24–14 lead in the third quarter.
Taylor rushed for 157 yards on 29 carries. It’s the sixth time the Salem, N.J., native has earned this honor, which ties him for second-most in Big Ten history. He trails only Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett for the all-time record.
