reax from last night
1. i'm tired. was up til 1:00 am watching the game and post-game coverage. 1st ever finals win at home will do that. lol
2. the superlatives for lebron james cannot be overstated. he's done something no one has EVER done in the 1st 3 games of a nba finals. 123 pts (41/game), along w/12 rebounds/8+ assists average. those numbers are from another solar system.
3. the team defense the cavs have played is amazing. they're basically playing tressel ball. walking the ball up on every possession. running the shot clock down under :05 nearly every possession. that's limited the warriors' possessions. plus guys like thompson, and mozgov, and shumpert and smith are helping james and dellavenova on extending pressure on curry/thompson outside the 3 point line, and winning the rebound game.
4. not only did delly play d, and get on the floor, but his 20 points was about 10 more than i expected from him, and that was the difference holding off gs's late run.
5. it's ironic that cleveland is getting a lot of press on how they've taken control of the tone of the game, and has been the more physical team. because draymont green's picks could all be called offensive fouls, and when delly was on the floor late in the 4th, david lee flew his body, knees first, into delly's back/ribs. should have been a flagrant-2. if that had happened on the street it would have been simple assault. i think the warriors, knowing how short the cavs' bench is, are doing everything they can to take out another player or two. delly went to the hospital after the game needing iv treatment. shumpert got a stinger in his left shoulder after one of green's road blocks. blatt had to use mike miller last night, who should be well rested since he hasn't contributed or played nearly all season. the cavs only played 7 players last night... by the end of the series they may only have 7 players in uniform.
6. the warriors are getting very little production from their bigs. relying on outside shooting and fast breaks can win lots of regular season games, but if cleveland continues to dictate tempo, guys like green and barnes and bogut have to get some points. lee got 10+ pts in about 10 minutes last night. he'll be playing more the remainder of the series.
7. curry getting hot in the 4th (i think he had 3-4 3's just in the last 2:00) was both scary and a thing of beauty. he's fun to watch. but so far in the series, he and thompson have not been hot at the same time. that needs to continue if you're a cavs fan.
8. j.r. smith will need to be a bigger scoring option, because you can't expect another 20 from delly.
9. the officiating in this series has been awful. it is the toughest job in sports, no doubt, but seeing so much contact on the floor w/o controlling the players? that has to change... and that's going both ways for both teams.
10. overstating what can't be overstated enough; lebron james is doing something historic in nba history right now. there are a lot of people outside ohio who, for the first time this am, now think cleveland has a great shot to win the series.
