Brantley gets a run scoring single them Gomes rips a 2 run homer. 3-0 tribe before Kluber takes the mound. I thinks it's just the 2nd time that's happened all season. 3 runs is 1 more than the Indians have scored for Kluber in 15 of his 22 starts before tonite.

Today__I was listening to the game in my car in Coshocton when Cody Allen imploded in the 9th__it was a long drive home. A microcosm of the season. Starting pitching good enough to win... But still find a way to lose. Ugh. tribe is now 49-58... a season-worst 9 games under .500. toronto sits in the #2 wildcard slot now at 57-52. 7 games is certainly not insurmountable, but you also have 7 teams to jump to get to that spot. indians have to get to .500 by the end of august... that's a tall order in and of itself. of the next 17 games, 14 are vs winning teams (6 vs the twins, 7 vs the yankees, 1 make up game w/the cubs). at the end of the month the indians host the angels for 3 and then go to toronto for 3 to start september. the rest of the month is all division games, 27 in a row, before end the season w/boston. 3 central teams are amongst those 7 cleveland would need to jump. w/kipnis on the dl, the offense is even weaker than it was, which was pretty weak. if the tribe wins 2 out of every 3 games the remainder of the season, going 37-18 (francona's teams have played well in september recently) that gets you to 86-76. that might be good enough. might. but w/23 games left in august, if they don't go 16-7 or better, to at least put themselves within reach, it will be time to concentrate on osu and wondering whether the browns offense may actually score less points this year than the indians do. lol

The Browns are invading Columbus today!!! Good Luck with that....lol 70,000 people to watch the Browns scrimmage__smh

Corey Kluber got more support today and this time he made good used of it. No hitter thru 6 2/3, compete game giving up 1 run and 3 hits, striking out 10 in an 8-1 win. Tribe scored 34 runs in the series, the most in a 3 game set by any team this year (and yet only went 2-1!! Argh!!!). Tribe had score only 34 runs in the past 11 games prior to this weekend (and 12 of the 34 came in one game).
Today's line up had only 3 guys (Brantley, Gomes, Santana) who were starters opening day. Brantley has raised his average from .298 to .313 in the last week or so. London has gone from .230 to .271 since the all star break. The new guy from Atlanta, Chris Johnson, went 4-4 and scored 2 runs in his first game. Two calls ups from Columbus, jerry sands and Abraham almonte, hit 4 hrs combined this wknd.
Still 8 games out with 8 teams to jump for a wildcard spot, but that door remains cracked open. Just a sliver. Lol

I mean this now motley crew of mostly aaa players has won 4 straight/2 series. 2-1 win tonite over the yanks. Salazar pitched yet another gem, just 1 run on 4 hits in 7 1/3. Cleveland has now, amazingly, won 10 games this season scoring 1 or 2 runs. Think that's the most in the majors. 6 games out of a wildcard spot w/7 teams to jump. If they can get to .500+ by the end of August this might get interesting. Still a big if, but the last week has cracked the door open just a little more.

I am a Royals fan first and foremost, but I always pull for the Indians when they aren't playing the Royals. Chain of Lakes stadium, where they played in Spring Training in Winter Haven, was about three blocks from my office. Plus I was involved with the youth baseball league and they got pretty active in supporting our league. As a result I met Hart and quite a few of the players, and had a few as patients. Of course Charlie Manuel was, I think, the hitting coach back then, and he married a local woman who had a son in our league the same age as my twins. We always had a lot of former major league players hanging around, all of the dDoc brothers, Bernie Carbo, Rick Miller, Orel Hershiser (probably screwed that spelling up good). Good times. Those guys were all really interested in seeing the young kids learn to play the game.
