Back when I actually played the game some, a bunch of us all went to a batting cage and faced 100 mph, working up through the cages from 80.. In the hundred cage, a tiny nick of a foul tip was considered "a hit".
It was insane.

For the human arm to be able throw a baseball 100 mph repetitively, such as in a baseball game, is what is insane... For a batter to hit it is even more so... amazing.

I went to the batting cages a couple of months back in Wrigleyville before a ballgame...never made it to the fast machines, but even hitting the medium ones was an adventure.

The King And His Court came through Athens when I was in college. I batted twice against him. Never came close to hitting a pitch. He threw strikes from 2nd base, on his knees, underhand.

It's a challenge. I use to be friends many years ago with Paul Schaal, the KC third baseman before George Brett. This was after he retired. He played I believe close to ten years in the majors and was a decent hitter. The fireballer back then was Nolan Ryan, who they said threw 100. I asked Paul about hitting against him and he said all he did was try to guess high, low and in or out. He would start his swing before Ryan released the ball, swing into one of those locations and hope he hit his bat.
Fastest I ever hit against was about 92-93 mph and I was able to square it up pretty consistently. Unfortunately I went all Cerano on anything else.

LMAO at your last comment. "Are you saying Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball?" Funny stuff. "Jesus, I like him very much, but he no help with curveball." I love that movie. I must have seen it at least twenty times by now. Of course, back then the Indian came to Winter Haven to have spring training and made it more fun for us.

When my sons were playing USSSA and AAU baseball, Legion and HS, we use to go to a lot of tournaments. Every now and then you would hear there was a kid pitching who could touch 90 mph and there would literally be a couple of dozen scouts there, behind the plate and more radar guns than a south Georgia speed trap. I can't believe how much velocity has changed since then. It seems like on major league staffs almost every pitcher can thrown 90 and half of them throw upper 90's. I remember standing in the first time I saw anyone throw that fast and not flinching was about the hardest thing I had ever done. I think I was too young and stupid to think about how bad that would hurt if I caught one 90 mph in the head. I still remember watching John Kruk in the All Star game trying to hit against the Big Unit. One pitch batting left handed and he baled as bad as anyone I've ever seen, then finished the at bat right handed even though he had never batter right handed before.
