Remembered in St L as another Joe from the "Hill". As was Yoggi. Parlayed a career as a light hitting catcher into a HOF radio/TV career. As did the Uke. One oddity about his baseball career was he batted L and threw R. In addition to his wife and son, Garagiola is survived by a daughter, two sons, eight grandchildren and when he visits St L, 5,000 "cousins".

Remembered in St L as another Joe from the "Hill". As was Yogi. Parlayed a career as a light hitting catcher into a HOF radio/TV career. As did the Uke. One oddity about his baseball career was he batted L and threw R. In addition to his wife and son, Garagiola is survived by a daughter, two sons, eight grandchildren and when he visits St L, 5,000 "cousins". when i was real real young, mid 60s, my first knowledge of garagiola was actually for his work on the today show, which my parents/grandparents watched regularly. it was only later that i found out he'd played some too. his lines about not just being the best catcher in the majors, or from st. louis, but not even the best mlb catcher in his neighborhood, is classic. Well, today, mid 60s isn't old but it ain't young. How old are you today? Is your middle name Methuselah His other story, if I remember it right, was there were 8 NL teams when he started and he played for 4 of them. 8 teams, hard to believe. Ya the Yogi Joe story is humorous.
