It'll be interesting to see how Vandy responds to this in their hiring process. Vandy isn't typical as they don't have an athletic director like at most schools. This from SEC Country:
Vanderbilt is in the market for a new men’s basketball coach after Kevin Stallings accepted the head coaching job at Pittsburgh, the school announced Sunday.
Stallings has spent the last 17 seasons as the coach of the Commodores. Vanderbilt has a 332-220 record and seven NCAA Tournament appearances over his tenure. The Commodores had the talent to potentially win the SEC title this season, but did not live up to expectations. Vanderbilt finished the 2016 season with a 19-14 record, which led to speculation about Stallings’ job security. Stallings agreed to a six-year deal, according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman.
“I am extremely excited to join the University of Pittsburgh family,” said Stallings in a press release. “Pitt has a tremendous basketball tradition and I am looking forward to building on the excellent foundation that is in place on the court and in the classroom. The city of Pittsburgh is outstanding and I have a great deal of respect for the people that make it such a special place. I look forward to seeing their support along with that of the Oakland Zoo next season at the Petersen Events Center.”
Pitt’s head coaching position became available when former coach Jamie Dixon announced he would be leaving Pittsburgh for TCU, his alma mater, after 13 years in that role. Dixon’s Panthers went to the NCAA Tournament 11 times in that span.
“Coach Stallings and I share the same vision for Pitt — playing in the Final Four,” said Pitt Athletic Director Scott Barnes. “Kevin has a successful track record recruiting the ACC footprint and beyond, and is one of the best coaches in the country at building an offense around his talent. He plays a fun up-tempo style that players love and fans will enjoy. Kevin runs his program with impeccable character and has a high care factor and connection with his student-athletes. He is a Power Five conference coach whose experience and success will be immediate assets for our program.”
