on tbs yesterday, mark emmert said "NCAA sanctions should target adults not athletes who didn't have anything to do with infractions" Agreed. A 5 year ban on coaching at an NCAA school for any coach caught cheating, and any athlete that knowingly cheats should have to pay the school back the cost of his/her scholarship.

Seems to me that college sports is in the near same position as "amateur" status used to be for the Olympics. IMO, the NCAA needs to acknowledge this reality and embrace it with reasonable laws that address reality. For instance...Johnny Football, (and I mean that generically, not to Manzell), is a star player for X-U. He signs a deal with Nike for $100. Of the hundred, the NCAA sets up a scholarship fund for every school in their system and $75 goes to THAT fund. The last $25 goes to the school, of which, say, half goes to the kid. EA sports signs with the NCAA to do basketball game....All the royalties go to the scholarship fund, equally administered for every school. OhioSt gets no more money for it than Eastern Squidunk Tech. Individual players that are obviously shown in the game, such as Ed O'Bannon, get a small piece individually.
