Ok. I'm not sure if anyone else sees this, but I'm getting this subtle sense that mr emmert does not have your total respect. Am I reading too much into this??? granted that i am not the most objective poster here...but still, even the most level headed person should conclude that it's pretty dick to renege on a promise to donate towards a scholarship fund. |

an unfulfilled pledge is not exactly like not paying your taxes or the phone bill, and he did donate $51,000 which is not exactly chump change. but if he promised to donate $100k, in his position both at uw and with the ncaa, and 10 years later hasn't found a way to fulfill it, that simply stinks. |

Was the pledge toward a specific purpose or project? If so, and UW has not fulfilled their obligation for it then Emmert may be holding back for that reason. But, it's always better to accuse someone of wrongdoing without knowing the all facts. Right, ihs?

Haven't seen the paperwork on this one, but in most cases a pledge like this is a binding contract that can be enforced in the courts. Would be funny as hell if UW took him to civil court.
the question is if there was some kind of defined time line for the donation to be completed. no mention of it in the story so tough to say if there was or wasn't. i know at osu most giving in terms of academics, athletics, etc have an end date. it's been 10 years now since he made the promise. he's considerably wealthier as he makes about 1.8 million per year (as of 2014). as president of uw, he made about 700k per year. he has no intention to pay. but i am sure that he will continue to ferociously monitor the amount of cream cheese unpaid student athletes put on their bagels at breakfast. |
