Speaking of Bobbleheads, there is going to be a rather unique tribute at Dodger stadium next month.
The crowd that night and be given a bobblehead of Dodger pitcher and HOFr Don Newcombe. At a ceremony before the game, Newcombe, now 90, will be presented the bobblehead by Dodger announcer Vin Scully. What makes this interesting is that 67 years ago, Don Newcombe was the starting pitcher for the very first game Scully ever called as the Dodger announcer.

I am more than impressed that Vin Scully can effectively ply his HOF craft for 67 yrs and counting.

What I can't get over is that I sat out on the front steps of my parents house when I was 8 or 9 years old, with a transistor radio I got for Xmas, and listened to Vin Scully call games. It's what baseball WAS for all of us as a kid. Scully WAS the Dodgers, painting pictures in our minds because none of the games were televised. And I sat out on the front porch of my house last night.....and listened to Vin Scully call the Dodger game....55 years later. Only difference is the cigar and a splash of Chattanooga Whiskey. Scully is so woven into the fabric of Los Angeles that it's difficult to imagine a warm summer evening in LA without that voice hanging in the air. And what is interesting is, I prefer to listen to Scully call the game on radio than watch it on TV. Habit, I guess. I'll have the game on TV, and can get up to see a replay of some great play, but most of the time, I am content to let Scully explain it all.

Was planning a trip to L.A. for business, might try to wrap it around that event. Have to admit...had no idea Newcombe was still alive.

Close race between him and Jack Buck for my favorite announcer of all-time.
